I see no need for me to put up any results. It was a class tournament which impressed everyone, even Mike Ganley who came to 'observe' the German tournament. How knows, maybe there'll be a ranking tournament on the continent soon???

Was the final result, 2-4, or was it a misprint?

A bit strange they played best of 5 and best of 7.

Was John Higgins' result a walkover or did Kurt Maflin actually whitewash him?

Higgins is still rated as one of the favourites for every tournament after his performance last season, but I've thought since the Masters (or even the Grand Prix) that John's confidence and form seemed to be slowly waning, culminating in that miserable performace at the World's. He doesn't look like winning tournaments to me at the moment. Even in China and Malta he didn't play well in my opinion, despite getting within touching distance of both trophies.

I hope I'm wrong as I do like Higgins. It is true that best of 5 in a pro-am doesn't tell us much and his loss to Ding in the NIT wasn't televised, so we don't really know how he's playing this season, but I won't be putting money on him.

I am pleased for Holt though. One of the more interesting personalities on the circuit (if a bit frustrating at times). I'm sure it'd be good for the game if he could make the top 16, and beating Stevens, Doherty, Swail and Hawkins in one tournament is a good sign that he's playing pretty well.

I can reassure you, Higgins was in top form. In his very first frame at the German Open he played a century and won all his matches (at least the ones I saw) in marvellous fashion. It was just that Maflin was in the zone. He played a century and two other high breaks which helped him win the frame. Kurt Maflin NEVER missed a ball. When he ran out of position (which happened only once or twice), he played a bl**dy good safety shot. It would be infamous to say that Higgins played badly cause in that match, he didn't get the chance to play at all. To say that he had ten strokes in total would be an overstatement.

John has recently given up his season ticket for his favourite football team so that he can spend more time with his family and also practise a bit more at the weekend. when he goes to the football, he can be out for a whole day, going out afterwards. so thats a good bit more time if he splits those days in "half" and uses each half for family and snooker....

maflin was fighting for every black and played very well. john higgins had no chance to win this match.

it was a nice event. all professionals were very kind to everybody only Stevens wasn't keen about playing there. but he was friendly too, so, sometimes you have those days...

and the players night was funny.
