  • Power snooker, comp?

Is any one thinking of staging a power snooker event, I would love to put one on in the future. I guess you will need the correct equipment, IE: power balls, diamond racks and electronic score boards? Have the promoters of power snooker given any thought on the problems with scoring in clubs? are there any plans in the pipe line to develope an electronic score board and is the diamond rack available or does it have to be made?
I love the idea that you could stage a power snooker event and be able to give a start and finish time as you known how long each match will last. There is no reason to stick to the 1/2 hour time either, you could make the matches longer or shorter depending on the number of entrys.

        hahahahaha very funny

seriously though cant see it being possible to play under those rules in clubs you will have 3 mates with 3 different watches keeping tabs on you.

Perhaps the Montrealer can comment as I believe they held a Power Snooker tournament at the 147 Snooker Club in Montreal. I don't know what they did regarding the stop watches however it would be easy enough to use a purple or orange ball as the power red and the racking of the balls is easy enough to do with a regular triangle ball rack.

Lets hope he adds to this thread. I don't think power snooker will take of without an electronic score board. No one wants to be messing around with stop watches.
You need something that has nice big numbers that has a match clock on that can be paused, an in play clock with a 20 second count down clock with a nice big button that a player can press to reset before each visit and an addittional button to start the the 2 min power play when the power ball is potted. It should also be designed to allow traditonal snooker scoring or no club would invest in them. I really can't see how this game can take off without a score board.

HI Terry yes we had 9 events of power snooker at the snooker club at the following website www.147snookerclub.net that Stephane organized it

He made the rules as follows with Handicap an Elite Player or semi Pro Player gave a B player 90 points also gave a intermidate player 30 points and also gave a A PLAYER 60 points handicap that is 30 points per class of player

We play 30 min and total points after 30 min wins the match the rules are almost the same with no shot clock

When you are in the Power Zone all points count double however you are limited to scoring only 60 points once you reach 60 points you have to play safe

Also when you break off and do not make a ball the oppenent player takes the shot not like the Power Tournament of wich you shoot twice on the Break.

Stephane makes the draw and after each round there is a random draw.

I was lucky to win won of them and it was fun cheers Leonard from Canada

To be honest, although I am not against Power Snooker, I feel it is the sort of game that it is not the same to play than it is to watch. The crowd and arena and set up is all part of it and playing it in a snooker club isn't really the same in my opinion. You would need a timer and Power Ball and you would make sure that you knew the rules correctly. As I said, I am not necessarily against Power Snooker, but I wouldn't be particularly interested in playing it.

HI I agree however we are not professional snooker players just amateurs and with a handicap system that Stephane made up the rules it is fair for everybody. We have played 10 tournaments every Friday and there has been a different winner each time cheers Leonard from Montreal Quebec Canada

There are plenty of threads open on this subject for you to give your opinion on. This thread was started so I could get an idea how much thought had gone into promoting the game at grass route levels and not about who like or dislikes it. If the game is to take of it will need investment and backing, someone like rileys would have to back it and provide the equipment. The game will never take off on a national level by playing with odd colour balls as a power ball and players timing each other. Without a backer the game is dead before it has even got off the ground.
I personally think if would make a great comp in clubs but only with the right equipment. I don't agree with Montrealer changing the rules, you might aswell give it a different name? If the game is to take off it has to be played the same by every one every where , just as snooker is.
