I'd like to add my short bit to this thread.

I think what Paul, Sarah, Janie and the rest at OnQ Promotions and the South West Academy are doing for snooker at all levels of the game is fantastic, and should be applauded by all. The facilities they provide at the academy are magnificent, and the costs of putting together facilites like this do not come cheap in any industry. They have invested an incredible amount of money already, so why shouldn't they look to make a profit. You wouldn't question the costs of staying at a plush hotel with the hotel owners would you? Or the costs of going 1st class on an airline etc

The attitude of "how much are they making out of it", is just ridiculous. I have experienced this myself on a smaller scale when arranging exhibitions with some pros. It should all be about enjoyment and the competition.

As Janie and Sarah have said, these events are aimed at people looking to make a career as a player in the game, not your "regular" amateur players. So if you're serious about making it as a pro player, then the £500 would be a good investment.

        Hi Steve!

Many thanks for your kind words. We hope to see you at the Academy in the near future. If you think £500 would be a good investment, then the new cost of £350 is an event better investment

No problem. These events will be beyond my abilities, plus at 34, age is not on my side. I will certainly inform the younger generation in our area of these events.

I also plan on visiting the academy sometime in the new year.

PS. your website still states the entry fee as £500

That's a shame that you will not be able to participate in the QSP but we will look forward to seeing you in the New Year

Thanks for letting others in your area know about the QSP-hopefully we will see some of them next month at the Academy!

              Many thanks!

i was really interested but its a bit late seeing this as the deadline is tomorrow. will these events be run the following year at the same price? is this tournament based on the 4 events the top 4 players then go through to the qsf in may and if they win the may tournament they will be put on the pro circuit. (just so i know how it works as it didnt really make sence to me im sure i will get it when you state it yourself cheers)

                  Hi centurysnooker,

It would appear that you have gone through to the old information. If you refresh the page from the link above it will show you the new information. I apologies for this, it is due to a small issue on our site which is currently being fixed.

The deadline for entries is actually the 7th January so you have a little bit of time after Xmas.

Players will earn points depending on their performances in each of the four events, the four players with the most points at the end of the series will be given £1000 to reimburse their Q School entry fee. The Q School is World Snooker's event to find 12 entrants onto the main tour.

I hope that makes sense. Please feel free to ask if there is anything else I can help with.

                  Regards

Hi Steve - the website does say £350 both on the front page news piece and on the QSP info page - it may be that your browser if bringing up an old cached page - give your browser a good old clean out, empty the cache and refresh the page - and then you get the nice surprise - it's £350!!

We're very much looking forward to seeing you down at the Academy when you dig yourself out of the snow (and when we do for that matter!)

Also don't forget to spread the word about the League event and pass any new contacts on to John Redfern.

                    cheers

Will do Janie. I am trying to persuade the Coventry and Rugby leagues to enter. The Rugby league is actually a member of Richard's UK League Snooker site already. Coventry would potentially have a very good side if they got all their top players to play. Ben Woollaston, Mark White, Vic Makh, Ian Bown, Chris Wakelin, Phil Parkin.
                      Cheers

Yes West Midlands and Staffs is one of strongest areas in the country for top class leagues. Loads of league teams and tons of good players too.

                            LATEST NEWS:

Originally QSP was only going to be open to the Amateurs. But in view of the fact that the lower ranked pros will also have to play in the Q School in May, we are throwing open entry to the QSP to professionals ranked 65 or below (on the current list) (obviously we can't precisely predict who'll be in that relegation zone by the end of the season.)

any pros ranked 65-96 reading this who wants to enter. You can use the forms on the website or email me with your phone number or email and I'll contact you later in the week to take your entry.

Surely that can't be fair Janie? The q school is to get back on the main tour, the whole point in qsp is to get the top 4 spot for the paid entry to the q school and to get decent match practise on the same tables as will be used in the q school? Even pro players ranked right down have had plenty of match practise through the ranking events and ptc events and plenty of chance to make up the thousand pound entry for the q school. Plus the q school is basically amateurs only when you consider the pros playing will have came off the tour and are back at amateur status, but right now they are obviously pro players still

Come on frazz, the Academy is being run on a commercial basis, even if profits will be going to charity, so they need to attract as many players as they can to try and cover their costs.
