Wow. That was a great day's play at the QSP - some tremendous matches and performances. Some surprises, several comebacks worthy of Lazarus and more to follow tomorrow.

Bottom line £500 is a lot of money and unless your so talented that you know that your going to be there or there about’s, you’re just throwing your money away. I posted some time back that snooker is in danger of becoming an elitist sport where only players with money can progress.
The kind of set up we are moving to now would have meant we possibly wouldn't have seen the likes of Jimmy White and Alex Higgins turn pro.
I am fast becoming disillusioned with the professional side of the sport and this is coming from a person who has snooker in his blood. Watching the Master’s final I enjoyed it but it just left me with an empty feeling like there was something missing.
God how snooker needs a new star with some flair, style and charisma sadly I don’t think the game in current form will allow it.
                Just my view.
PS: good luck every one who takes part

Kyren Wilson into the final. Has only lost one frame all weekend so far.

The other semi - Ben Harrison v Mitch Mann is 2-2 at the moment

Gotta say its quite how I feel about the game as well. Sadly as with most walks of life people are only interested in money today and those at the top are most guilty of it.

The players wanted Hearn in charge so they could play more snooker and generate more money but its damaging to the grass roots level of the game as the next generation, unless they have the financial backing aren't going to get into the game. Its just too big a risk and outlay to turn professional now and something needs to be done to help the next generation, otherwise the game may as well just head over to China as at least they are making steps to prepare their young prospects. The game will be dictated by Chinese players in the next 10-15 years if we're not careful and its all because of greed at the top.

                      Fantastic final

Kyren Wilson came from 3-0 down to beat Ben Harrison 5-3

                      82,65,63 from Ben and 41, 43, 89 and 40 by Kyren

Oldest players in the semis was 22 - Sam Baird and the other 3 were 19.

Very interesting start to the series and pointers for some the young talent that will be in the Q School

Ben had the high break with 137, which was in the deciding frame of the semi final.

At least the EASB provided an affordable alternative to turning pro, with their Q-School Satellite series. It is possible that someone might enter the pro ranks next year for just a £10 outlay!

The novel structure was a 3 stage tournament, with the first stage costing just £10 to enter (although players could shell out up to £30 for three entries in the draw). The 16 qualifiers from each of the three regions went through as free entries in the Stage 2 draw, but new entries were permitted at £40 a time (again up to three entries).

Stage 2 is now complete and there are 24 players who have qualified from the last stage. Depending on the final numbers entering Stage 3 (at £100 a throw) there will be a number of paid places in the World Snooker Q-School event, worth £1000 each.

A cheap and affordable alternative to those who can't shell out the full £1000 for Q-School.

Another tremendous weekend of snooker with some high quality performances.

Congratulations to Michael Wasley who has won Event 2 beating James Welsh in the final.

Ben Harrison with a final and a semi goes to the top of the rankings ahead of Kyren Wilson, and Wasley moves up to third place.

Full results on the SWSA website and I'll have the ranking up there sometime tomorrow.

Next event is 19-20 Feb and spectators are very welcome - it's free to come and watch for the weekend.

We had one guy drive all the way from Barnstable to watch today.

                              QSP 3 is underway

We've had a fantastic day's play down at the South West Snooker Academy

Quarter Finals tomorrow with a classy line up again.

We've had two maximum attempts today that went astray - Dan Wells on 73 in a deciding frame when he sensibly turned down a risky black to play safe and win the match.

Michael Wasley, winner of the last QSP, was on 64 when he came too awkward on the black and had to settle for a blue.

Jamie O'Neill knocked in two stunning tons.
Kyren Wilson on the century list again
and scoring machine Ben Harrison rattled in another tons

All the results to date at www.southwestsnookeracademy.com

The ranking list is there too and competition is really hotting up now for those top 4 places and the £1,000 paid Q School entry.

Quarters start at 10am Sunday. Follow the scores on the website, or, if you're in the area, why not pop in and watch some class snooker.
