  • Edinburgh snooker player required.

I am looking for someone to join my snooker team that plays in the Edinburgh league on a Thursday.

The league us played on a handicap basis so level of ability is not important. All I ask is that you love to play the game and you have a competitive streak to you.

    Hope to hear back.

were all in the same boat mate. we were lucky to pick up two players this season if we had not done so i don't think we would have been able to carry on. i have seen the amount of players in our league falling away over the last few years along with the amount of clubs closing down it's not a good sign of the way things are going good luck and if i hear of anybody i will give you a shout.

          Hi,

Just moved to Edinburgh and I am looking to join a team to get me out of the house away from the wife and kids. Just left a team in North West England playing off a 5 handicap. I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a look at www.eica.co.uk for details of league and clubs in Edinburgh. I can highly recommend The Locarno and Shandon clubs in Slateford Road but it depends on where you are for convenience I suppose. As Ashbash has said the league has just finished. Shandon won the Premier league and Allstars playing out of Locarno won Division II and the end of season cup. Lots of good players at these clubs and a nice friendly bunch of guys. Untill recently we held a Sunday night "round robin" handicap tournament. Was great for sharpening up your game. If you need any more info just post. You'll need 10 posts before you can PM me or Ashbash.

Hello again, just wondering if I am too late for the season beginning for Locarno/Shandon and wondering what nights the teams play/practice so that I could come down and get a few frames under my belt as I haven't played properly for a few months.

                thanks.

Hello mate. You're in plenty time to get sorted out for next season. No dates have been published yet but normally the season starts in about August with some cup games and the league proper would start about October. Thursday is the normal night for league and cup matches.
There's a few teams play out of the Locarno/Shandon so you would need to get yourself registered with one of them. I'll ask around to find out who is looking for players. I've heard that the Sunday night round robin tournament is due to start again soon so that would be a good way to meet up with some of the league players and get a bit of practice.
There's a few guys (myself included) who go in for a game on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. You'd be very welcome if that suits.
                  Keep in touch.

Hi mate, as a new member on hear you can’t send pm’s till you have made about 10 posts I think? But if you want you can drop me an email at martincmiller at blueyonder dot co dot uk and I will try sort something out for you.

We don't need any extra players for out team (the shandon)this season but i know that there are loads of other teams that certainly do. The manse road club has started a new team and last time i spoke to there captain they were looking for extra players.

The first cup competitions start on the Thursday 11th August. All matches are played on Thursday nights at 7:30pm. If you want to play in any individual competitions this season then you will have to register with a team before the first meeting which Is this coming Monday 1st of August, I know this does not give you much time but as I said above if you’re interested? I will try sort something out in time for you.

As bigmeek says there are a few of us that play on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and the Sunday night tournament will be starting back up very soon which is a good way to get to know a lot of the league players as well as giving you something to judge your game against others in the league.

                    keep in touch mate.

Hi Mark. Welcome to the Forum. Unfortunately the league snooker season is coming to an end. Just two games to go. Have a look at this website for details of clubs in the Edinburgh league.

The league starts again in August. First step would be to select a club that you would enjoy playing at and is handy for you to travel to. I can recommend the Locarno/Shandon in Slateford Road. Great bunch of guys and some top notch players.
There will most certainly be teams looking for new players for next season. Keep in touch.

Cheers bigmeek, yeah I've noticed that it's coming to an end, great timing eh! About as much luck as my Fulham bet today... Maybe a good thing in-case there are new rules to learn, formats etc, do you think most teams still practise/play in the 'off season'? I visited that website as it happens yeah, good for contact numbers but fairly basic regarding info on teams/leagues and so on I thought. Regarding travel I'm fairly central and never minded getting a bus or two for the right team; competitive but friendly (and enjoy a pint) is the ideal scenario ha! Thanks for replying, appreciate it. Where do you play yourself?

Mark See my other post about the Sunday afternoon tournament. The league runs a summer doubles competition which may be of interest to you. Lots of folk give the summer a miss due to golf. I play all my snooker at Locarno but play for the Shandon A team next door.
                            PS Are you George's mate?
