European Snooker Champion U-21 from Poland, 15 years Kacper Filipiak. Malta 2011
Kacper will turn 16 in November. He started playing snooker around 3,5 years ago. This Championships were his first tournament abroad!!! Winning the final he was shocked, that for sure,, but still it didn't change the expression on his face.... At the end, Kacper's close up, u can hear my voice saying " Kacper, pls smile..." ))) And the great thing is that this succes will not change him a bit. He will be the same calm boy, focused on snooker Rookie from Poland in the Main Tour. A star is born )))) I'm so proud to be Polish!

How's life with you?
Hi Stevie, nice to hear that life is treating you well. I'm doing great. I had a couple of lessons last year from your old mate Jim Donnelly. My game improved 100%. I was struggling to get red, black, red and my cueing was terrible. Jim sorted me out. Still not managed the magic 50 but I feel I can do it one day. I was asked to join The Shandon snooker team and we have just won the Premier league. I won more frames than I lost so quite pleased. We're in the semis of the cup and are up against Craig Macgillivary's team. Drew first leg 4-4. Still in with a chance. Say hi to Jim if you're speaking to him. Best regards Mike

It will be very interesting to follow him on the pro tour next season. I have the feeling it is at least a year too early for him, but then again, he has shown that he has the ability to surprise everyone.
As you said "he has the ability to surprise everyone" and he surly did that beating 4 of the top English and Scottish under 21 players in Mitchell Travis, Sam Harvey, Eden Sharav and Michael Leslie respectively on his way to winning the title.
At 16 I would have to imagine that he will be the youngest player on the tour so let’s hope he makes the most of it and good luck to him.

I think that is a quicker learning curve than for a lot of the juniors trying to mature into match players. just me thoughts.Janie Watkins

Janie,
Personally I dont think you are wrong there.
Promising youngsters with ability should get themselves playing in amongst the "old heads"
That is where they will quickly learn the "ringcraft" to accompany their potting skills to help them become the full package.
That sort of topic always reminds me of when Ray Reardon was to play Jimmy White (Then the World's finest potter) in the professional game.
When asked how he fancied playing the amazing potter that White was at the time.
Reardon replied "He'll have to see them first"!
If memory serves me Reardon won 10-5 quite easily by combining solid safety with his tidy breakbuilding.
Jimmy certainly fizzed a few in and made some exciting breaks ........ But still headed home.
I'll bet that even at that stage in Jimmy's career, he learned an awful lot about the top level game in that defeat than he would have had he won the match!
Food for thought kids.
