Just checked in on the stream - they're showing pool now, then more pool starting in 15 minutes. No mention of snooker. Guessing they'll show some of the matches nearer the end of the tournament.

I just heard that they are going to show snooker tonight at 9pm EST Canada. I think the 9ball is coming to an end so we should get to see some good Canadian snooker until Saturday(the final). The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I must say I'm impressed by Pagulayan's quality of snooker. Did not expect that. Big breaks, single visit frame wins, decent safeties. I counted break with 14 reds potted. Very very good amateur stuff. He would not be out of place at EBSA/IBSF tournaments. Also, he's playing other disciplines like 9ball and 10ball at the same time, so he's switching games back and forth as rounds go by, and that's a very difficult thing to do. Too bad the picture quality is so bad.

Everything should be back to normal tomorrow (the 17th).

Great stuff in the semis!
Tom Finstad was up 4-1 in 1 of the semi and he saw Floyd Zeigler battle back. Final was 6-4 Zeigler.
In the other semi, John White and Alex Pagulayan began their match 1-1 and White then took a 3-1 lead, but Alex battled back, winning 3 frames on the trot to make it 4-3. In those 3 frames, Alex scored 274 points to 40 for White. White then had a 60 ish break, only to see Alex steal the frame. In the next frame, Alex had a 59 break if his own, only to see White steal the frame and send the match into a decider, 5-5 the score.
In the deciding frame, White scratch in the green pocket on a safety at the start of the game, giving Alex a shot at a thin red in a black pocket. He got on the blue and from there, Alex made a sensational break. He lost shape on the brown (with 22 left on the table), made it but ended up nearly touching the blue (on its spot). He tried to cut it on the yellow pocket and almost did.
Great way to end the match, sexy break. Cant wait to see the final tomorrow (the 18th) at 1:00pm local time (Toronto).Last edited by Camio; 18 June 2011, 05:03 AM.

You should be the commentator.:-) Awesome report.
I was pulling for Brady, too bad he did not make it.
Keep up the great work, thank you.
I know it is not easy nor cheap to provide streaming for free. Thanks to you a lot of people from other parts of Canada and even the UK have the opportunity to watch snooker being played in Canada. Really appreciate your effort.:-)

Thanks for the nice comments.
Btw, I'm from Québec so I've been watching the stream like everyone else. I've been trying to provide updated scores of the snooker frames, as they are being played, as well as some analysis or comments as to whats the overall situation (aka, amount of reds/points left, f&m rule and stuff) to make it easier for people not used with the rules in snooker (read, those 8-9-10ball players :P).
Glad to see you appreciated.
Hopefully the final is as good as the semis we had the chance to see today. Man, that was some pretty good quality of snooker. I watch alot of snooker (pretty much all pro tournaments which are on tv) so I know a bit about the game and can easily say the last 3 frames were of a very good level. To see Alex comeback in a frame to steal it, then White donig the same thing the very next frame, only to see Alex go on a would-be clearance (missed on blue while clearing the colors), that was superb stuff.
Cant wait for tomorrow. Actually, we're tomorrow already! :P
Cant wait for later today, hehe.Last edited by Camio; 18 June 2011, 04:47 AM.

I'm not sure but I heard alex doesn't pratice that much pool, let alone snooker ( I think he pratice only before tournament) . He plays poker now... I read in another forum, a guy asked Jim Wych about Alex's snooker and Jim responded that if Alex could train with top players for a year he could shock a lot of people. I believe Wych knows a little about snooker.

slh:
Just to make it clear, I've played on those tables in the round-robin section and I've also played on the Star tables at the Southwest Snooker Academy which are done to pro template and I can tell you there's not a whole lot of difference in the tightness of the pockets. The only thing I found were the middle pockets at Shooters might be a touch larger however the cloths are also slower than what the pros use PLUS the pros always play on new #10 cloth which allows the pockets to take the balls easier.
In addition, these tables at Shooters have rolls on them which cause the players to look bad on some of the slower tick-off safety shots. I can tell you for a fact this #17 tables rolls off towards the green side of the table at the top end as I experienced it.
I'm not saying the best Canadian players are up to pro standard however I think they could get there if they had the opportunity to play top world-class players and professionals more, and had the motivation (and funding).
