  • Merseyside Juniors

    Hi all.

Just a quick post on some recent achievements of the kids from the Merseyside Junior Snooker Academy at the George Scott Snooker Club, Liverpool.

Last week Clayton Humphries (16) made his third 147.

Joe Ginley (15) has just compiled his first century break. In a few short minutes Joe's highest break went from 76 to 120.

Josh Mulholland (14) took his tally of 5 century breaks to 7 after hitting 105 and 106 in the same session.

    Well done boys.

Along with a number of other Merseyside Juniors, Joe, Clayton and Josh will be at the Burnley Snooker Centre tomorrow morning to support the memorial tournament for Jordan Ullah.

    Neil.

            Hi Steve, thank you.

I'm so please you posted. I lost a lot of data on my records a few years back and I've tried to track you down a few times without success.

I've just followed your link and the WEBSF looks like a fantastic set up. I'm sure you've had a big hand in things from its inception.

I can't believe it's 21years since we met on our coaching course at Lilleshall. And I will never forget you staying up half the night to teach me how to use the cue cards that would enabled me to get through the lecture that I had to undertake successfully the following morning if I was going to pass.

As I'm sure you will remember, the help and support you gave me that week didn't just help me pass, it also allowed me to become the youngest qualified coach in the game by some 5 years.

Thanks again Steve. I really will never forget the assistance you gave me towards the path I've since taken.

            Will keep in touch.

Thanks for the complement Neil, I am glad I was of help but I cannot take all the credit. Those that put you forward at the time obviously saw what I was to see all those years ago and you have certainly proved us right.....It just goes to prove, it does pay to have faith in the youngsters!

Glad you like the site, we have a great bunch of willing chaps that give up their valuable time week in week out.

I really must make the effort to come up and see your set-up, it must be impressive, I might bring up some of our lads for a knock about?

Oh! a few weeks back we had some real fun with one of your 360 Purecue Action Trainer Cue at our coaching school.....like the concept, well done mate!

Yes we must keep in touch
              Steve.

                Cheers for that Steve.

I was actually going to see if we could get down to you, either way it would be great to see you again after all this time.

We don't have the Liverpool Academy any more as it was too much responsibility (for Paula and myself alone) to continue to take on along with the product developments stuff. It was a fantastic place to develop players and it was tough letting go but I now run the Merseyside Junior Snooker Academy in the George Scott Club which is a lot less stressful. I'm also now working towards getting back to full time coaching instead of just working with the best of the up and comers which I have had to restrict myself to the last few years.

So, it may be more viable for me to bring a couple of the kids to your place at a convenient time. Let me know what you think?

                Thanks Steve.

Your more than welcome to come down any time. As you know numbers dwindle a bit this time of year what with holidays and the like. Let me know when it would suit you and we'll set something up.

                  Best wishes, Steve

                    Hi again all.

Just another little deserved mention for some recent achievements from the Merseyside Snooker Academy juniors.

I am really pleased to announce that 17 year old Paul Merry has finally made his first proper century (111) in a game. Although Paul has only been playing for 31/2 years he has witnessed countless other Merseyside juniors reach the century milestone whilst he was stuck in the 90s for what seemed like forever.

Well done Paul, the cue action you posses is more than the equal of this achievement and I'm sure you have many more ahead of you.

I also got a call from 9 year old Lewis Ullah's dad last week to inform me that his little feller had made a 66 in a line-up.

                    Well done Lewis.

                    cheers.

I would just like to say congratulations to 14 year old Josh Mulholland for his achievements over the last few weeks.

Josh managed to win the 1st leg of the Northwest Junior Tour at the George Scott Snooker Club today without dropping a frame throughout the group or knock-out stages. He also had the highest breaks of the day, breaking down on 69 twice when in good shape around the balls.

This latest win comes off the back of Josh securing his first pro-am three weeks ago at Les Dodd's club in Southport where he took some notable scalps when getting past the likes of 16 year old stable mate Clayton Humphries in the semi's 3-1 before rounding the day off with a hard fought 3-2 win against Darren Burns in the final.

To say well done to all of the above feels like such an understatement, keep it up Joshy.

                      Neil.

Well done to Josh Mulholland for qualifying for the English U/16s Final. From the last 16 onwards Josh won 4-0, 4-1 & 5-3, and will play Shane Castle at the World Academy later in the month.
What makes this even more of an achievement is that Josh has had something of a growth spurt of late and is right smack in the middle of a major transitional phase with his technique.
Josh's success comes off the back of Clayton Humphries achievements a month or so back, where at just 17 years of age he reached the final of the Pontins U/21s Star of the Future.
                        Well done boys.
                        Neil.
