International Amateur Tournament in Serbia

Hi guys,

as some of you might know I have founded Serbian Snooker Association this year in October.

One of my first plans is to create a tournament that will hopefully become a traditional tournament in years to come.

The idea is to organize a tournament which will be open only to amateur players from around the World.

Entry fee would be 100 or 120 euros and you will get 3 matches in a group ( best of 3 or best of 5 )

Maximum number of entries would be 128.

The tournament would last 4-5 days (couple of days to finish groupl stages and 2-3 days to complete knock-out rounds).

We would organize some cheap accommodation, and transport from the hotel to the venue, etc...

Prize money would be depend on the amount of players, unless we find a sponsor but let's say that winner prize should be around 4000 euros, with top 32 places paid.

IS there anyone who would take participation in this type of tournament.

Tournament would be held in August or September and would not clash with IBSF and EBSA calendars and I would also try to avoid PTC tournaments.

I was thinking that there were not too many amateur tournaments in Europe and I think that this would be a great chance for amateur players to play competitive snooker and to earn nice money out of it.

I would be really interested to see if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance

I would support your tournament if I lived in Europe but the travel would be just too expensive.

I think you may run into the same problems we have here in Canada because the country is so damned big. It's very tough to get good players to travel just due to the expense and also having to take time off work. The only way we can do it is to get sponsorship and make the prize money worth the expense. If you can find a sponsor to add say 5,000 Euros or so and then have a first prize of 8K or 9K Euros I think you may attract more players.

thanks for your reply. Yes, I think it will be possible to find a sponsors that would add 5000 euros for the prize we are going to work on it in the next few weeks. The idea is to announce the tournament in January or February and to have some guaranteed prize fund by then and we will add entry fees to that prize fund.

Thanks Jurgen, I have sent you an e-mail. I would love to see more TSF members taking participation in this tournament. I am having some really big plans for the newxt few years and a lot of it depends on the success of this first tournament

My boyfriend would definitely be interested to participate, and while he plays, I would volunteer myself to help out with the event (have a lot of experience with event management - though none so far related to snooker).

OK guys,

the first European Amateur Tournament called Belgrade Snooker Open, is going to be held from 13th till 15th of April. The entry fee is 40 euros, and we are expecting the first prize to be around 1500 euros. The bigger tournament Serbia Snooker Open will be held in November and it is going to be more expensive with bigger prizes. But for the first one 40 euros, 1500 first prize. Now, we will arrange some three types of accommodation so if you are on a budget you should be fine. Anyone interested? e mail at bso@snukersrbija dot com

Well the tournament was a great success I would like to thanks Bosnia, Bulgaria and Romania for sending their players. For th efirst ever tournament standard was fine, nothing spectacular but you could see some very nice matches. HIghest break was 41. Winner took Alexander Kanchev from Bulgaria. He beat Sasa Stojanovic in final 5-1. You can watch the final here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOYjqfHIqow . Again, it wasn't the best match, but don't forget that snooker was played in Serbia for only 6 months when this match was played. Hopefully, next year we will have more interest from players around the World. Any suggestions how to attract amateur players from around the World. What prize money would attract you to come to play in our tournament? I would love to make this an traditional event and any help is much appreciated.
