  • Amateur Tournaments?

Hi all, i'm from the West Midlands, looking to enter some amateur tournaments to get more match experience and because i just love playing the game and competing. Are there any regular tournaments near to me that i could enter?

Just to give rough idea of my playing ability: Been playing under a year just completed 1st season in a local league, highest break in practice 67, highest break in a match only 32 so nowhere near the standard of some of you guys on here.

    Any info greatly appreciated.

    Mart.

Hi Martj. The reason I asked about age, is that there are more events for juniors, and next season they are likely to be more local than ever. This season's events are drawing to a conclusion now, so there won;t be anything to play until next season, which will probably start in September.

The events that were staged this season, which might have been of interest to you were:

Amateur Tour for the 18-40s, with separate north and south venues.
Club Players Championship - as it says on the tin, open to anyone who wasn't on the EASB Pro Ticket Tour, played individually on a home/away basis
English Amateur Championship - open to all players, with initial qualifying rounds in 8 regional venues
Paul Hunter English Open - held at Leeds
6 Reds Championship - held at north/south qualifying venues

Hopefully these will all be played next season, along with a new event hopefully which got postponed this season: the Malcolm Thorne Memorial Championship, with Leicester obviously playing host to at least one stage.

EASB has lost it's professional nomination, hasn't it?

Another example of Barry Hearn's continuing destruction of grass roots British snooker.

Yes, the EASB, along with the Welsh, Scottish, RoI and Northern Ireland associations have lost their guaranteed places to the Main Tour, effective immediately, and only announced about three weeks ago, after this qualifying season is nearly over!

I really don't think Hearn has given any consideration (and probably doesn't even care a damn) about the huge impact the loss of these places has on these NGBs. For most of these associations providing WS with a stream of professionals has been a very major focus of thier activity, and in most cases a major source of revenue to support the overall activities and overheads of the association.

is a high break of 67 good enough for a NGB event?
