  • Over 40 in need of help

    Hi all

i am from Sheffield and have been playing snooker for just 0ver 2 years now. i am probably in my opinion below average player. i have had breaks in the 20s in games and in practice i can get a few 30s. my best is 53 in a line up practice however i have never reached that total since, been close 48, 46, 43 though.

i regularly play just one friend once a week, we are at a similar level so really i haven't progressed too much recently.
I want to improve further now, and would like to challenge myself further either by playing better players for practice or some sort of league which except over 40s, playing against different calibre of players will bring out the best in me, well thats what i am hoping .

I am not afraid to get hammered, as i think it will help me improve much faster than i have been doing recently.

i would love to find out if there are any leagues in sheffield i could join or if anyone needs a playing partner i am available.

    regards
    Alabbadi

        alabadi:

Just playing once a week with a friend will not help you improve at snooker at all. In order to improve you should put in 8-12 hours of SOLO practice per week and I mean really intense and structured practice and then on top of that you should try and play players who are better than you for another 12 hours per week.

No matter what sport a person chooses, if they want to improve at that sport they must put in the time first. I think too many poorer players see the pros on TV who make snooker look really easy and they don't understand that pro spent at least 10 years or more doing tons of solo practice and playing in matches and tournaments continuously before they got good at snooker.

        There is no silver bullet.

          Hi Terry

I play once a week with a friend, however I do practice 10 hours a week solo.
But as I mentioned we are at a simlar level now he use to be a lot better than me so I have caught up with him . What I need now is another playing partner who is a better player than me so I can challenge myself and improve .

            Hi Jim

I live in Ellesmere close to Burngreave and pitsmoor. I play with my friend at the hillsborough snooker club, however I don't mind playing any where else as long as its not on too far to travel.
            Where are you at.

Isn't this for professionals, I don't want to be absolutely outplayed I need to have some sort of chance of getting my hand on the table

                          Hi Alabbadi.

As jim has said there is the wednesday night snooker league, there is also Monday Night 3/4 league as well both are good nights. The hartley house has just the one table setup which is good as it`s easy to play around as with some snooker halls you are knocking into each other and makes for a nightmare.

The hartley house team have just won D Divison this year and are on there way upto C Division they done good this year, not only that if you need a good snooker cue then jim is your man as well.

                              Hi chris

If there is only one table how do you all practice, do you take it in turns?

what about if someone else came in and wanted to play how does that work, or isn't it for anyone else to play on. i'm with you with regards to snooker halls tables can be close to each other, however there are plenty of tables for practice purposes and you are gaurenteed to get a table plus they never usually get all occupied.
