  • The Spider Trophy - Results

Congratulations to Sean Hopkin (£60) who defeated Steven Hallworth (£30) 2-0 in the final to win The Spider Trophy. Frame Scores: 54-46, 99-54.

A full field of 16 players battled it out from 10.30am (or 11.15am in the case of Nav Hussain who was late as usual) and the final ball was potted at 8.40pm. A long but enjoyable day, the main aim of which was to pay tribute to Paul "Spider" Wilkinson by raising some money for charity.

I am pleased to report that we managed to raise £70 for the Nottingham Snooker Charity Box and this means we have reached our £100 fundraising target. A donation of £100 will now be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

We also ran a "Big Break" tournament during the day where players could pay 50p to try and pot as many reds as they could in the stipulated time. Nav Hussain and Jason Turner managed to pot an incredible 7 reds in 30 seconds (try it - it's hard!). They won £15 each and went on to a play-off for the Big Break Trophy. Hussain won the play-off after potting 5 reds in 30 seconds and took home a very nice trophy. It was nice to see Bash Maqsood and Ant Scarborough turning up and having a go at this. Scarborough led for quite a while with 6 reds potted. Maqsood was hampered by his daughter who took great delight in trying to trip him up and moving his reds nearer to the cushion!

Here is a run-down of how all 16 players performed in the main event:

Highest break of the day was a magnificent 103 break by Sean Hopkin.

    Other noteable Breaks:

    Dave Jobling 81,46,39,30
    Steven Hallworth 72
    Alfie Palumbo 66,65
    Sean Hopkin 64,54,51,45
    Jason Green 55,44
    Jason Turner 49
    Wayne Bilbie 48
    Wayne Martin 35
    Harry Farrell 32

Many thanks once again to the management and staff at Spot On Snooker Club, Bulwell, who allowed us the use of 8 tables free of charge throughout the day.

The next charity tournament will be The Clarry Cup, a 4-man team event to be held on 8th September 2012. Further details to follow in due course.
