  • Poem inspired by century break

IT IS possibly the first snooker break to have inspired a poem.

Adam Nash's 115 clearance in a league match in Southampton prompted his Churchills A teammate Mike Finn to pen a verse.

Remarkably, Nash posted the highest break in the Southampton & District Social Clubs League so far this season using his old cue and still suffering from a back injury sustained while shifting a cast-iron bath on a building site.

The 33-year-old, whose new cue is being lengthened, admitted he will enjoy the moment but maintained it will be short lived.

“It gives you the bragging rights for a few weeks,” he insisted. “That’s all it does.

“I reckon it’s a good target. It’ll take a bit of beating. Where Mike (Finn’s) hunting for a ton at the moment, he’s just falling a little bit short. I think it will be beaten, though.”

Nash’s 115 came in his second frame against Phil Lightbody, from visitors Ashlett Club B. It included a fluked red into the opposite middle pocket on 70.

Current Southampton champion Finn said: “Fantastic break by Adam. (It came) out of the blue, really, as he has been struggling a little of late in matches. But in practice he has been good.

“There are seven or eight real quality players in and around Southampton and he is one of them. He just needs to actually believe it.”

    Mike Finn’s poem:

    His name is Adam Nash.
He got his cue from out the trash.
At 33, we’d all agree, his form has been quite lean.
Till Monday night, through fluke and spite, he spanked a ton fifteen.
