SOUTHAMPTON’S only entry in the latest Pro-Am at Fareham Snooker Club walked off with the £100 top prize.

Prolific break-builder Jordan Winbourne reverted to an “impressive” safety game to beat Anthony Cutler (Poole) 3-1 in the final.

The 16-year-old from Hedge End, who posted a 136 total clearance in a league match in December, chalked up breaks of 82, 78, 59 and 52 in winning all four group-stage matches 3-0.

And he added runs of 50 and 56 in his 3-1 semi-final victory over Pete Oughton (Portsmouth).

Tournament director Colin Norton said the “two form players of the day” made the final.

“It was hard match-play, good quality safety, but there wasn’t a lot of opportunities for break building,” he added.

Winbourne said: “I was pleased my safety game was good in the final. I would prefer to be knocking in breaks but you have got to do both sometimes.”

And Cutler, 34, who used to coach at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club, said: “(Jordan’s) safety play was impressive.”

Unbeaten in his group, Cutler disposed of Neil Herd 3-0 in his semi-final.

Heavy snow restricted the entry to ten but Herd still managed to make his way to Fareham from his home in Frome, Somerset.

Oughton, who compiled the day’s top break of 100, and Herd pocketed £25 each. Cutler took home £50.

Sean Collis (Portsmouth) was competing in his first tournament for 22 years.

Norton said: “He didn’t win any matches unfortunately but he thoroughly enjoyed himself.”

And Gosport’s James Budd, 17, nearly took a frame off Winbourne and “acquitted himself extremely well”. In fact, he would have qualified if he’d won his deciding frame against Herd.

The previous Pro-Am at Fareham was also won by a 16-year-old, Adam Bobat.

Norton is considering retaining the round-robin format for the next event.

    ROUND-ROBIN POSITIONS

Group A: 1st, Anthony Cutler (Poole); 2nd, Pete Oughton (Portsmouth); 3rd, Pete Hendes (Bournemouth); 4th, Mickey Mo (Portsmouth); 5th, Sean Collis (Portsmouth). Breaks: Oughton: 100, 74, 66; Cutler: 70; Hendes: 58.

Group B: 1st, Jordan Winbourne (Hedge End); 2nd, Neil Herd (Frome, Somerset); 3rd, James Budd (Gosport); 4th, Sean Reeves (Bournemouth); 5th, John Reeves (Bournemouth). Breaks: Winbourne: 82, 78, 59, 52.
