maybe being amateur there are rules about sponsors, etc. (maybe an avenue to explore) but it does seem a bit rough you have to sell your personal possessions to represent your country
      Up the TSF! :snooker:

I am actually a bit shocked you are representing your country and you have to fund your entry - I was under the impression that with having such a proud tradition in snooker Canada -your government and your snooker association - would look to help out and back young players and even old timers like you out

It does not bode well for the future of the sport of snooker in your country and I find it quite sad you have to sell your cue collection.

I tried last year to get a bit of sponsorship and even had a newspaper article but it was no go and I didn't get a cent. I had to sell off some of my cues last year too.

I've tried the governments of both Canada and Ontario with no luck either as they will only give sponsorship to those dynamic sports which are in the Olympics. When I talked to the rep from the Canadian government I asked her if by dynamic she included the sponsorship they give to archery and rifle/pistol shooting and then she admitted they only helped out sports that get TV coverage.

There hasn't been snooker on TV in years, ever since Cliff retired I guess

Congratulations Terry I wish you the all the best. As a fellow Canadian I'm shocked that you have to cover all the expense. Good luck with the sale.

Absolutely disgusting Terry. Canada has a huge tradition in snooker but without your governments support how the hell can the game flourish again. Go to the press! Surely someone will be interested in the story. If they can fund rifle/pistol shooting surely they can help!!! Ask Cliff Thorburn for help with your governing body? If they won't listen to you they may just listen to him eh? I'm probably stating the obvious things you've already done! Just thinking out loud Terry. Why not do a sponsored snooker marathon to help you raise money? I'm sure people will dig deep for you?? I'm rambling again, sorry. Anyway, best of luck in selling your prized collection Terry but I'm still gobsmacked that you even have to sell one cue to help you get to Latvia!!!

Hi Terry I will take another look tonight at the cues. What are we talking on the exchange rate $1.63 so basically 100 would cost me $163 ? Now I have an excuse to buy a cue...LOL

                        Leonard:

Only Jason Williams is going and he will get the expense money which would have went to Floyd for winning. Next year they are changing it so all 4 players will get about $1,700 in expense money so Canada can fill the 4 spots allocated. No women have come forward to compete that I know of.

I have a string up with my cues for sale and only the TW and the H&O Black Plate have been sold so far, pending payment.

The exchange rate is at $1.68 right now but we can discuss since I won't have to ship to you.

                            Leonard:

Forgot to mention Paul Flemming is going for the Masters at his own expense of course and I've heard John Everakian is considering going over for the Mens but there is still one spot to fill on the Masters side.

If you know of any players over 40 in Montreal who would like to go have them contact Steve Cooper right away as he has to get the info in by Oct 15th. They will need an effective passport and Steve needs a photo of face and shoulders along with high match and practice breaks right away.

It would be nice to have all 5 spots filled as they granted Canada an extra Masters spot for this year.

Go to the cues for sale section and you'll see my posting 'Cues For Sale - Something For Everyone'. Pictures, specs and prices are all in there. The H&O Black Plate has been sold and the TW is waiting on payment but all the rest are still available. Some really good cues there, especially that maple GB/MW 3/4.

Terry do you think enough was done when Canada had four or five top ,top players, to embed the game in Canadian culture, as it is in Britain, or was it always a minority niche sport. If enough wasnt done who do you think is to blame. It sounds a very sad state of affairs over there.
