  • Looking For Any Latvian Member

I'm looking for any TSF members from Latvia. I'd just like to get any inside poop on the country if I can.

I've already checked the internet and see I have to get some local currency as the Euro won't be introduced until the beginning of the year but there must be some local knowledge that might help me to navigate my way around Daugavpils like good restaurants, pubs, snooker clubs, etc.

Hi Terry, I played european championships in Daugavpils in 2012. Around the hotel you have 2 or 3 shopping centers where you can buy food etc. There is a very good pizzeria located maybe 50m behind the hotel I used to eat there all the time because I wasnt satisfied with the quality of food in the hotel. Daugavpils is a very very quiet town, hotel is located in city center and there is a street nearby with a few pubs.. basicaly as you exit hotel, go left and then just go forward until you find coffee shops and pubs Close to the hotel in one of the shopping centers you have bowling and pool and cinema, but no snooker

      vucko:

Great information. They are using 2 hotels for this one, the first is the Dinaburg (3stars) and the second is the Latgola Park Hotel (4 stars but it says only 3 on the internet). Both are supposed to be a 5min walk to the Olympic Sports venue although on the map it looks to be a little longer.

I hope the hotel food has improved if you stayed in the Latgola as that is where I am booking.

Yes I stayed at Latgola. It is at least 10 minutes walk. Maybe even 15, but there was a bus for players and referees. I only had breakfast there, and ir was verY bad. Some eggs, cornflakes and pineapple from can.

Yikes!!! That doesn't sound too good at all. I'll have to see if I can find a decent cafe somewhere which serves good meals.

Last year in Sofia the breakfasts were huge with many different choices and no limits. You could almost survive for the day just from eating breakfast!
