  • Team Mann heads for Gloucester

TEAM Mann has booked a trip to Gloucester next month for the southern region last-16 of the English Amateur Championship.

Mitchell Mann paid tribute to the four men who made it all possible after progressing through the West Midlands qualifier at the Midlands Snooker Academy, Walsall.

The 22-year-old from Castle Vale said he “played solid” and added: “I’ve got a great team around me at the moment.

“(Coach) John Farnworth helps me off the table as well as on it. And he is also my best mate.

“Nick Neil and his father Ray have supported and helped me with anything I needed.

“And also my dad Jeff. I can’t thank these people enough.”

Joining Mann in the next stage are James Brown, Craig Barber and Matt Emms.

Mann, a little tired as he left Gloucester at half past midnight after losing in the final of the Snookerbacker Classic, was the first to qualify.

He accounted for Daniel Southall and Luke Garland with 4-0 scorelines and posted breaks 63, 58, 74 and 55.

Brown qualified by playing only one match, 4-1 against Brandon Sargeant, as his first opponent, Nigel Crawford, was a no-show.

Emms (Kidderminster) booked his trip to Gloucester with a 4-1 win against Josh Baddeley.

And the fourth place went to Barber (Stoke), a 4-1 victor over Gary Miller.

Barber said: “It was a well-run day at a great venue and I’m pleased to qualify for the next stage.”

The last-16 south will be played at the South West Snooker Academy, Gloucester, on April 26-27. The southern and northern winners will then meet during the EASB Finals Weekend at the Northern Snooker Centre, Leeds, on June 7-8.
