  • I would just like to add on that MISS call that it got me very mad as I felt the call wasn't in the spirit of the game but it did get the adrenalin flowing and I avowed (to myself) that I would bury this guy and win the next 2 which is exactly what I did to win 5-3.

So in the end I guess I should thank my opponent for pissing me off and making me more determined as it really made me play much better.

    • Your game did improve considerably and it was great to see
you make it to the SF's. Well done. Your opponent played
well but you were close and should be very pleased with
      your performance.
I agree that members here should be supportive and positive
      but that is life.

Yes. When you jawed the white and it came within a couple of cm of the red I thought the ref was out of order to call it a miss especially after all those honest attempts. As you've said. The table conditions weren't great, the cloth slow, the cushions being a dead and given odd bounces. It really was as close you could have realistically got.

The only good thing about it was (as you said) it got you well fired up and you demolished your opponent. The last couple of frames was a real joy to watch.

Yes. It was a great result and it was a pleasure watching you play. Thanks for taking the time for posting your thoughts on the match.

In the end unless you win every tournament you enter you will always get beat by a better player on the day.

My problem with the snooker that I had to get out of (I had 30 points when he laid the snooker) was I felt it was impossible to hit. The head referee told me afterwards it would have been possible with a 4-cushion approach however what he doesn't realize is that all the side cushions on these tables throw wide and the pink and blue were in my way. This season I have lost 2 frames in matches where I was in an impossible snooker situation and I wonder what happened to the interpretation of the rule by the referee which is supposed to take into account the difficulty of the snooker, the conditions and the skill of the players. Here the call is always 'MUST HIT'. I have difficulty with the MISS rule and I think it should be changed as I feel there is no way a player should gain 30-40-50 points from one shot and win a frame. I think the maximum scoring shot should be 8 points in any situation (unless the player is obviously not trying to hit the object ball). This is especially true for amateur players where the table conditions sometimes makes it impossible to hit a snooker which could be hit on a pro table with proper cushions.

I was mad at the ref as I had just missed the red, passed by the red, and left my opponent an easy one or two blacks and the point differential at that time was he had 4 or 8 points to the good. With 2 blacks + yellow and green he would have won the frame but he chose to let me keep frustrating myself by trying to hit the snooker. There was no way 4 cushions would have worked on that table and the only way to hit it was twice across the table just missing the blue and using 2 side cushions which were throwing wide.

I am very happy with my performance and quite chuffed I reached the semis. The conditions were far from ideal though as 3 of the tables played very poorly and should have been ironed between matches but they didn't have an iron. Couple that with the fact all the tables had pretty severe rolls on them (for a match tables). As an example a dead weight brown to the yellow pocket on the table I played my 1/4's on would roll off 1.5in and a black to the middle would roll off over 2in at dead weight. Plus 3 of the tables had dodgy cushions.

As for my comments to j6 and vmax and in reply to Bob1...Although they put in smiley faces (at least vmax did) their comments were along the lines of 'armchair quarterbacks'. After all, I am only human and I was trying my best to win and in fact I did manage to overcome all my faults and win some important matches. Amazing when you consider I have to wear orthopaedic support. contact lenses and hearing aids just to play snooker matches. BESIDES WHICH I AM NOT A PRO AND NEVER, EVER SAID I WAS AS GOOD AS A PRO. So gimme a break!

I apologize for the streaming as it would have been nice to have it working well but they fellow who was controlling it (Randall) had to stand in for a referee who took off in the middle of the tournament so he couldn't keep it up and running and couldn't post scores. It should be better today as he will be able to sit on it and nurse it back to health. This is all voluntary so I would like to thank everyone for their efforts.

              Terry
Great post Terry, after the miss frame, I heard someone ask the ref if it wasn't impossible to hit the ob from the snooker, and the ref said the way you tried to do it probably, but if you had tried down the other side of the table he wouldn't have called all the misses, I have seen this happen in our league as well , I don't know of it's an official rule or if they just like to see you try all ways to escape, it is a tough rule that's for sure.
The lad you played in the semis looked a decent player, and as you said sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say, he was better than me, no disgrace in that, you try your best and see if it's good enough, that's all you can do. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and I'm going to watch the final today(fingers crossed for the streaming) cheers Terry and well done.

                Terry
After reading your coaching posts for a couple of years now on this forum, when finally seeing you play I expected a facsimilie of what you yourself teach, instead I saw someone with a short cue action, long bridge, cue arm forward of the vertical at address and playing very, very negative like a poor man's Mark selby.
My lighthearted banter was an attempt to get you to see your faults at the time as maybe they were not usual to you and had crept in to your game when you were feeling the pressure, and do something about them which would have happened had the roles been reversed.

BTW I can do it myself Terry, I have a long cue which gives me enough cue over my bridge to sight every shot while keeping my cue arm just behind the vertical at address so I don't have my technique fail me when the pressure is on.
Other things may fail me when the presssure is on but my basic stance and technique cannot as my cue fits my physique.
You pooh pooh this everytime I post about taller players needing a longer cue, telling people instead to alter their technique to accomodate the standard length, an unnatural technique that can relapse when the pressure is on which is what I thought I was seeing in you, so I told you so in a lighthearted way as I know from past experience that you don't take criticism very well.

Get your own back FFS, I'm not going to buy a video camera just for that. Meanwhile instead of spitting your dummy take on board that some things that others may say just might help you.

I have a 60 inch cue for sale BTW, going cheap

You are correct j6uk. And I am not going to comment any further on this guy for the valid reasons you have stated.

You gut that right. I said last night they need to secure the network so everyone who walks in the room is not using bandwidth with their cell phone. Really too bad. Floyd is a very good friend of mine and actually works for me and I would really have liked to seen his match.
