I see that. Not looking good for Floyd, Allan is much younger and very confudent in the way he presents himself. Like I am the best. Who prances around in the Snooker Club with sun glasses on. But I will give him credit he can really play

      • A nice 76 and he gets a frame on the board, start of the comeback? It's over the other lad just stuck in a 74 ,would have been nice to have the stream work, if the rest of the final was that standard

The entry fee was $350 (divide by 1.85 for GBP, so about 200GBP or so). The prize fund gives 2 x $2,300 for expenses for 2 players to go to the IBSF World Champs. I won $450 for the semi finals and I believe first was $2,000 and second was $1,000 (although it may have been a bit less.)

I did better than Floyd against this guy (on the same table too). He seemed OK as far as attitude went to me but I have to say his potting was much better than mine and also his cueball control was VERY much better (than anyone in the tournament for that matter). If he got into the balls I was dead.

I think he is very likely the best Canadian player at this time even counting Alex Pagulayan, Alain Robidoux and Robert Chaperone, although I suspect the Alex and Alain (Montrealer) fans would disagree with me as the other fact that has to be taken into consideration is this was his home club and also his main playing table so he would get some advantage there.

He says he is going to go to the World's so we will see how he does there. My own take on the matter is he will qualify out of his round-robin group and maybe reach the last 16 or last 8 but I don't think he has the game to stick with the very top amateurs. If he wins the World's he would likely turn pro again I imagine.

            • How do the world amateurs work , does each country have so many places, or is there an order of merit type thing, or can anyone with the money have a pop? If it's the latter, I bet there will be some very very good opposition from over here and Asia .

I have to agree with Terry. This guy can really pot balls and like Terry says if he gets in the balls it is game over.

It's not an open entry. Every IBSF member country has a 'quota' of 3 players in each division, men's, master's and woman's however they do allow themselves to fill any gaps with more players from any country who offers to send more players. Normally the host country also gets extra spots and for this year the host is India so for sure they will have a larger number of players entered.

I put the quota in quotes since at the 2 I attended South Africa, Pakistan and some others had extra players entered however it also seemed Britain had extra players at least in the Masters and perhaps the Mens too. When you count 3 players each from England, Wales, Scotland and NI that would make 12 total but I think England had more and so did Wales (makes sense as there are a lot of good snooker players in both countries).

It also comes down to money. At a minimum it would cost around 2,000GBP or so and more if you like to drink a few beers at the end of the day or eat in expensive restaurants. A lot of the country associations do pay expense money to the players and it's usually to cover 3 players in each division but some associations have sponsorship and they can afford to send more players.

The entry fee for each player in any division is (US)$60 and that has to be paid at the venue before play starts. I found the whole tournament is very well run, with referees for each match, great Shender tables with new 6811 cloths and 1G balls and there was lots of space around each table. In Latvia they set up 22 tables in the match arena and 4 practice tables in other rooms but you could never get a practice table as they were always booked, mostly by the Chinese and Hong Kong players.

It's also interesting that a lot of teams have coaches and they will travel with the players too. For instance Wayne Griffiths is always there with the Hong Kong team and he watches their matches and then will work on any flaws in the evenings when they're practicing. In the practice booking list you will see every day a long list of Chinese names and there is no time left for anyone else which I think is a little unfair as each country should get some allocated practice time.

The Canadian Association has now shifted the focus of the Canadian Championships and have decided that besides the honour it is actually a feeder system for the IBSF World's and this year they have increased the sponsorship and I hear they will be doubling that to 4 players for next year (this year it's 2 players @ $2,300 each, which will cover flight and hotel).

It's a great experience and I would recommend any player who can afford to go should give it at least one try. Winning would be nice but just participation is good too. There is also some prize money involved but I'm not certain how much.

HI Instead of going to the Ibsf Amateur qualifers they should give a paid trip for two to the Q School in England and i am sure that players like Robidoux Chaperon Jason Williams Finstad John White and other good players around the Country would enter the Canadian Snooker Champs because you have to win the World Amateur Championships to become a Professional Snooker Player on the Tour

Watched Alan play live, Great experience. Alan Whitfield in his working Life is an Executive with a High end Canadian Men's
Clothing and Shoe Store Chain. A National Director of Tailored Clothing. So I can't see him giving up such a Job/Career for
and attempt to be Professional in England. Regarding his attitude as he circles the table he is not an arrogant guy he is a confident
                              person and a Nice guy.
