Well if I get to the point where I can knock in frame winning breaks on Floyd I won't care if thinks he needs to throw a cue ball through the wall.... Floyd just called me to say hi and we spoke about the match, he said Allan played very well and it was his day.

Yes, he does my Painting, Hardwood & Trim. Does excellent work and very fussy. He really does try to help me when we are playing. I think a lot of people think he is not very friendly and there for not very approachable. Once you get to know him he is a great guy. He said Cliff showed up last night at the club after his match and they had a chat. Cliff is also a good friend of mine and another guy that once you get to know him he is a great guy and loves to hear about your game and tries to help.

That I don't know, went down to run the line up this afternoon and I could not get past 24. As much as I enjoy the game and all the guys I have met and my Champion coaches my game is improving at a snails pace if that but I will continue to put my practice time in every day till fall in hopes of having a better season then the one that just ended. It would have been nice to put Terry on the streaming table. I have played Barry 4 times this season and he has beaten me 4-0 all 4 times.

              • Good for Alan! He's a solid player. Taken my money plenty of times over the years. I believe he made the trip to England when he was 16.

Alan Whitfield, I heard someone mention that when I was there on Friday. I will have to google his name and see what I can find. I really hope he goes to the worlds.

                    • I had a tough day in the seniors yesterday. I had a 9pm match the day before and didn't get home until 1am and then could only get 4hrs sleep and had to get in for a 10am match. I won that one and then had a 4hr wait for my next match, which I lost 3-1 against Paul Portier.

All is not lost yet though. I got home early and have had a good night's rest and I play the semi-final of the 'B' side today at 1pm (double knock-out format). There are only tough players left but if I win 3 matches today I'm in the finals.

The tables are really horrific. They all have bad rolls and are slow so you can't even roll a ball in, and that's ANY ball into any pocket. I tried a dead weight brown off the spot to the yellow pocket on one table and it rolled of 2" and didn't drop! These kind of rolls coupled with slow cloths make it very difficult to play an accurate tick-off safety and as the pockets won't take a hard shot the player gets left in a 'Catch-22' situation. You can only play harder shots to an open pocket and also have to stun everything at medium pace or near that. It makes it a tough game for everyone and brings down the level of play.

I think an iron would have resolved most of this but the organizers didn't have an iron so no help there.

Sounds terrible. I've never played on a table anywhere near that bad.

Is that something that the organizers can resolve in future matches that the table conditions are inspected and made good if necessary.

                        • No, except for ironing there is no way to correct this as they are club tables and no one is going to pay for a fitter to come back and level them. They were clothed just before the tournament and I have to believe the fitter did level them at that time but the tables were moved at the time they were re-clothed and they've settled into the carpet I guess.

Either that or the fitter did a really bad job. On another of the tables I rolled the cueball down the centre-line of the table from brown to black spot at dead weight and it went off over 3in! Going from black to brown it was worse.

I don't understand why the folks who go to that club don't complain like hell to the management. A 3 inch roll off. Unbelievable.
And why would the organizers chose that club if the tables were so bad. I just don't understand. Surely the players have some input into the venue choice?

One thing we don't have is any say. When we were at the Provincials Terry and myself where brushing and blocking tables trying to get the finger marks out the night before. New cloth on all 6 tables 2 weeks before and had not been touched since then. We could not get the marks out. On another note good luck today Terry. I hope to find time next week to get up for a couple hours of coaching from the new Canadian Senior Champion.

One of the comments I have heard over the last few years at Shooters with some of the viewers is "who is this guy" in relation to
Alan. The reason why that is mentioned is that for the most part he does not play in a lot of tournaments. He did play in one tournament before the Canadians. But for the most part over several years he does not play in tournaments. And he only practiced a lot a month before the Canadians. Which makes me wonder if he played year round how much better he would be.

A few years back I saw him practicing With Alex Pagulayan for about 2 hours and I could not believe the level that both were playing
at, just incredible. Alex was a World 9 Ball champion, and recently was making an effort to qualify on the main tour in England for
snooker. Alex and Alan are friends. But I do remember at the time people asking "who is that guy playing with Alex?"

Around that time Alex also played Floyd in the Snooker final at the Canadians, Alex won 6-0. 2011? 2012 I believe both years
                                Alex won.
p.s. Shooters is the place in Toronto where they have held the Canadians for several years.
