  • Edinburgh based snooker team looking for players

Hey folks, looking for 2/3 players for a team that plays in the local Edinburgh league, one of our players had to leave due to illness, one left since he is moving to London and another left to try another team, it's left us short for the new season so we could do with some fresh players. It's once a week on a Thursday and starts at 7:30. One week at home one week at an away match, we don't pay table time during the away games and we have a very reasonable fixed rate at the home games, it's teams of 4 where each player plays two frames. During the matches the home team referee the games as well. It's an ideal way of playing on a regular basis while also getting to play different types of player that keeps things interesting. If anyone is interested give me a shout. Thanks for looking.

Hi mate, might be worth posting on the EICA Edinburgh Facebook page? Might get someone down Riley's who would prefer to play up our end of town.

Yeah was about to do that too, one of my guys told me yesterday evening that he had just been informed his job was moving to London and there is nothing he can do about it so that's me another one down, think I'm gonna need to sack it at the end of this cup, our first match on Thursday we only had 2 players, can't have that every week. Should have just brought it to a close at the end of last season I think.

Won't be able to PM as you need 10 posts.
PS. We've signed a new guy from Bo'ness. Long way to travel but he's dead keen on his snooker and is fed up with the state of the tables in Falkirk. Will catch up with you soon.

Hi Kerr. I can highly recommend joining the league. Really improves your snooker and is a good night out.

Haha, well all mines can do is improve lol. I used to play when I was younger but never had enough money to play often enough to improve. I'm 22 now so hopefully have the cash and the patience to practice and improve.

The issue is that I could require a bit of a time investment to become up to standard haha

I do have snooker tables in broxburn I can practice on though!

one of our players lives in broxburn/uphall and there's at least one other player from there that plays in our league, i played him a few weeks back but both of them come through to Edinburgh to practice mostly, stu from our team to the lacarno and the other lad to manse road club stu also practices in the uphall golf club whenever he gets a chance says the table is slow though?

I will need to find somewhere cheaper as the club in broxburn wants £5 per hour! :-(

Hi, About 3 months ago I started playing snooker again after 25 years and have really got the bug again more than ever. Love the game. I know this thread is very old but can anyone tell me if there are there any teams looking for players in Edinburgh? It's hard to find information of who is looking for players, where and how to join. I'm not that good (current best break 37. I have done better than that but that was decades ago when I played and was much younger. I'm always trying to get better and I'm competitive, in a good friendly competitive sportsmanship, kind of way

Can anyone point me in the right direction. Would also be interested in best way to find other players possibly looking for a game every now and then.

                      Thanks
                      Craig

Hi Craig. Welcome to The Forum. The Edinburgh league has a Facebook page where you could post up your interest. It’s called EICA Edin. There’s about 30 teams in three leagues.
The teams play out of various different venues. The matches are played on Thursday evenings. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Nifty50, I really appreciate you getting back to me. Unfortunately I dont do Facebook and dont want to sign up to facebook tbh. I did see the website for Edinburgh leagues but could not find any forum (apart from on here) or to post anything. Might consider using facebook just for doing that if it's the best way. The other option would be to to just ask when I next go to play snooker again and hopefully where I've been playing they could do with someone who can commit and play or even just someone who can play if they are short of players or whatever. Would also be good to find other players to play with every now and again.

                          Cheers
                          Craig.

No problem. I could put a post up on FB saying there’s a guy looking for a team. What side of Edinburgh would suit best? There’s teams play out of Ballroom Clubs in Meadowbank and Morningside. Locarno club Slateford and Manse Rd club in Corstorphine are two others.
Not everyone does FB though so it might be best if you popped into the club of your choice on a Thursday evening and see if you can make a few contacts.

You've a star! Leave it for now and I will enquire next time. I'm at the snooker club and find out who the best person to speak to is. My closest club is Ballroom Meadowbank. Hope your day goes well. Appreciate your help.
