  • So I'm Going to India!

For those who didn't already know, I will be leaving for Bangalore, India to participate in the Masters at the IBSF World Snooker Championships Nov 18-29. The flight will be 18hrs long and I arrive in Bangalore at 3:15am on the 17th so I'll have a couple of days to try and get over my jet lag.

The last time the Indian Federation held the Worlds in Bangalore they streamed all the matches and there will be a schedule up on the IBSF website. I haven't heard if they will be streaming this year's tournament however I believe Bangalore is the bit IT centre for India so they probably will, plus they get good sponsorship from large companies so I don't think expenses will be a problem.

It will be played on Shender tables with new 6811 cloths which they keep pretty speedy with blocking and ironing between matches or at least once a day, depending on time. There are about 225 players from around 50 countries participating and it will be nice to meet all the players. If you look at the list of countries there are some unusual ones there, like Mongolia, Japan and a few others where you'd think there wasn't much snooker.

I think I am also participating in the 'Cue Zone' held each morning at 9am as long as I have no conflicting matches. This is a free coaching clinic headed by PJ Nolan and any other Master Coaches who are there for the tournament. I think it will be a good experience and I might give PJ a shot at me to see if I'm doing anything wrong which I haven't picked up.

I already have a pack of Immodium to take with me, just in case. I'm always on the lookout for good cues although I've never seen any that were made in India.

Yes, Alan Whitfield from Toronto won the Canadian Champs this year and is going to play in the Men's division. Paul Flemming from Kitchener is also going to play in the Master's division with me although he is having some problems with his neck but last I heard he is definitely going since I have his cue here to ship with mine in my ski tote.

Great, it's always nice to have a couple of familiar faces in the crowd. Again good luck and keep us posted.
