at a guess it was the head-to-head match - did Amar beat Terry in that? that's my guess but it is a guess, however the rules of the competition will clearly say how ties are resolved ...

We're proud of you, Terry. Well done!
Too bad you fell and hurt your wrist. Who knows how far you would have gone.

I failed to make it out of my group by one ball, which would have put me through. My upper right arm still has a large technicolor bruise from elbow to shoulder and my wrist rain is still there. I missed 2 fairly easy blacks against Cris Todd from Aussie and either one of them would have given me that 1 frame. I was especially pissed with the first one as I was running out from the yellow and made a great blue and pink and got nicely on the black in the baulk area and dogged the black.

In these competitions every ball is important, as I have just proved to myself (yet again).

well done Terry on going in the first place

ps what is "dogged the black" in some circles that could be construed as a very rude term...

Well done Terry. Something positive to take from your experience, without the fall you would have progressed to the next round. You should be proud of your overall accomplishment.
I hope you are prepared for winter upon your return.
                Again Congratulations!

That's so unlucky, I rekon you would have gone through without the injury, but great try Terry well done.

I use 'dogged the black' to mean I stupidly missed an easy pot I would get 99.9 out of 100. More couth than saying 'I f$&@ed it up.

Congratulations Terry,,, can happen to anyone!!! I just wonder, how was the condition of the tables (and the weather conditions). No player who wore gloves? Because of a sticky cue ( shaft ).

The A/C wasn't working for the first 4 days and as a consequence the tables were pretty slow and I couldn't see any evidence of ironing which made it worse. There were a few players who wore gloves I noticed but not a lot, but everyone (including me) was using a damp/dry cloth frequently. They did brush the tables between matches but that doesn't speed them up.

Now don't laugh, but the biggest problem was they frequently had to stop matches to wipe the feathers and bird crap off the tables. One of my matches was stopped 5 times because the poor referee had to use his ball marker all the time. A bird's nest fell on one of the tables during the night.

By far though the lack of A/C and the slower tables did effect the quality of play.

Well, to be honest, that's what I thought. in a country like India with such humid conditions. the tables are usually very slow (a disaster). and cues very sticky !!! sometimes wp the shaft with alchohol (95 prct) helps,,, btw, I laugh anyway (regarding what happened to the bird's nest). haha ,,,, hope you do'nt mind. is realy something to experience during a tournament !!!! Thx for the rplay !!!

LOL I am not laughing at you Terry I am laughing with you. My sister has been over there working three times this year a month at a time and says the conditions are not always ideal. I will see you next weekend at Shooters. You have to get down to try my new table one of these days. Plays great and is very fast and looks fantastic.

Well, Darren Morgan is in the finals of the Masters yet again, playing Phisit from Thailand who won last year. A Pakistani and Chinese (I think) in the Men's. Wendy Jans of Belgium in the finals of the Woman's yet again.

I watched the Pakistani play his semi-final against a young Chinese kid (I think he won or was a finalist last year, 17yrs old), and the Pakistani had 2 centuries.

They have one table on TV with 3 cameras and instant replay so I watched from the hotel. To get to the venue you have to cross a busy road with 6 lanes of traffic, no stop lights and no zebra crossings. Take your life into your hands. One of my team mates was hit by a motorbike and got an 8" gash in his leg. The hospital here didn't even stitch him up so he left the next day to see his own doctor back in Canada.

It's 11:15pm now and just getting ready to leave for the airport, fly out at 4:20am through Abu Dhabi and arrive Toronto 3:50pm Saturday afternoon. It's been an experience for sure, what with the food, the hotel trying to rip anyone off who left early and of course the pigeons at the venue along with some cases of poor refereeing.

It turned out because our referee in my final match awarded my opponent 4 points from a foul he committed instead of properly to me I had actually won that frame on the pink. My own fault for not watching the scoring though, but in the world championships you don't expect that. It would have not only put me up 2-1 but even if I lost that match I would have gone through to the knock-out stages. I won't make that mistake again.
