REMEMBERING to turn up for the third leg of the English Masters Snooker Tour South was a “triumph” in itself for Gloucester potter Hassan Vaizie.
But to actually win the event at Woking Snooker Centre was the icing on the cake.
Vaizie pocketed £80 after beating Anthony Harris (Sutton Coldfield) 3-1 in the final.
It was a second successive final defeat for Harris, who had the consolation of the £20 high-break prize for a 103 in the group stages.
Vaizie said: “After forgetting to turn up to the first two events, the first triumph was actually arriving - followed by the win.”
And he added: “After not picking up a cue for 16 years until last year, it felt great.”
Rankings leader Simon Dent (Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex) went out to Harris in the last-four.
The fourth and final leg of the first stage is at Club 147, Leicester, on Sunday, January 25. Following that, the players from the north and south come together and compete in three more events on a national basis.
