FORMER professional Adam Duffy brushed off his success in the third leg of the English Ranking Series as “just a bit of match practice”.
But the 25-year-old from Sheffield was party to a high-quality final that befitted the whole weekend at Cueball Derby.
Duffy, who dropped off the Main Tour at the end of last season, pocketed £500 following a 5-2 victory over Sanderson Lam.
The Leeds ace may have regretted reminding Duffy to register for the event as he picked the balls out for a 116 break in the first frame.
Duffy kicked off the next with a run of 45. Lam replied with a 50 break but lost on the pink.
Lam added a 44 in the third and lost again but made sure of the fourth with a 100 and the fifth with a 53.
A run of 44 gave Duffy a 4-2 lead and he wrapped things up with a 49 following Lam’s 45.
Such was the quality of the final that Lam made five breaks of more than 40 and only came away with two frames.
Brandon Sargeant (Stoke) collected the £50 high-break prize for a 129 against Kristian Willetts (Skegness) in the first round
The fourth leg of six is at the Midlands Snooker Academy, Walsall, on the weekend of January 10/11.
