Yeah, a little heavy with the entry fee but it's fair if all entry fee money is paid out as prize money.

Bit like a karaoke where the guy that get up to sing first is ed sheran - no -one else wants to stick their name down and get shown up - 200 quid entry fee is a bit steep for many am players to waste - risk - and might be wrong but we could enter a couple of PTC events for that? - I would go and just give it straight to the likes of Marco - save time.

But who knows - might get a few.

Prize money depends on the number of runners . It's aimed at bringing back the gold old days of decent Pro-am's.

I remember going to watch a similar type of one at Tolworth Snooker Centre back in the 90's . The players entering were unreal . From memory Ronnie O'Sullivan , Peter Ebdon , Cliff Thorburn , Bradley Jones , Lee Grant , David Gray , Nigel Gilbert and many others .

I just spoke to Bradley Jones who actually won the Tournament at Tolworth and they used to get between 16 - 32 runners . He remember the entrance back then was £200 and he won about £3k .....then the following week he went to Aldershot and won that as well !!! Also used to play big money matches in West Norwood Snooker Centre .

So there was a decent Pro-Am circuit back then .

Back in the day in the late 80's when snooker was booming we used to have pro-ams with around 128 players EVERY WEEKEND somewhere in England or Wales. Entry fees were usually 20GBP I believe (of course it was worth more in those days) and special pro-ams like the Willie Thorne one was more expensive. The nice thing was, since I lived in Leicester I could get almost anywhere in England in 2hrs or less except for Bristol area and Wales.

We didn't get a lot of pros in the regular pro-am but I believe there were more in Willie's and the pros used to give up some kind of start. I remember at a Warner's pro-am I played Tony Chappell in the second round and lost miserably and I don't believe I got a start.

some were a tenner or fifteen entry, some were over two days and four figures for the winner wasn't rare, that was weekends and during the week you had the midnight flyers around London where you could pick up 300 for breakfast by paying a tenner entry at midnight, some dodgy places they could be, walking out of Camberwell at half seven, semi comatose with trousers full of cash - would never have made it alive on your own, had to go 4 or 5 to a car

200 is madness, can't imagine there will be enough to make it viable meself, hope i'm wrong

Played in a pro-am at th SWSA weekend just gone with the likes of Rob Milkins, Jamie Cope, Jack Lisowski and others. Won by Michael Wasley who picked up £1200 and trophy for a £50 entry(amateurs got 21 start). £200 seems a bit steep to attract anyone other than top pro's.

All we have to do is the math here. Let's say they get 32 players for a prize pool of 6,400. Normally the split is 40/20/10/5 so we end up with 2560/1,280/640/320 so if a player figures he can make the 1/4-finals with a good draw he would probably just cover his expenses unless he lives close by. Would there be enough good amateurs close by to make up 32? I don't think so.

The entry fee is not realistic if the organizer wants to attract a large number of players. I think the 50GBP entry at the SWSA was a little more on target to attract a larger number of amateur players. No matter what the handicaps are the best players (the pros) are always going to win these handicapped tourneys unless they have to give up 40 points or more.

Any more pro-am tournaments at the SWSA ?

This one was part of a series every 2 months, and was postponed from december so guessing there will be another next month mate. They also normally do a monthly mid-week one on a wednesday.
