We are also looking for a good name for our 2 levels of players. I used 'A' and 'AA' initially and Les came up with 'Golf' & 'Silver' but I thought something more related to snooker might be more suitable, like 'Black' & 'Pink' but even that doesn't sound too great.
Anyone have any ideas on what we can name the 2 flights?Terry Davidson

Gl with this venture Terry, we had a breakaway league in our area when we were dissatisfied with what was happening and now we have fifteen teams in our league compared to five in the originalIt's hard to pot balls with a Chimpanzee tea party going on in your head

We wanted something with positive connotations for the less skilled players but haven't really come up with anything good as yet.
Our first tournament will likely be Jan 31 at The Corner Bank and we will try and avoid the Super Bowl kick-off on Feb 1. Problem is the Snow Tournament, which is the oldest snooker tournament in Canada at 47yrs is on the same weekend but it's up in Sudbury which is a 5hr drive from Toronto and generally there are not many Toronto players there as the prize money doesn't cover the expenses these days with hotels at $100 per night.Terry Davidson

Also, will we still register up to 8 pm on the Friday night so that we'll know the draw and time to play?
Sorry Terry, I just saw the new posting on the OSC site answering my questions. The bitter taste of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

Sorry Terry, I just saw the new posting on the OSC site answering my questions.
Our idea is the 16 Red players play 2 matches down to 4. At 1pm we do the draw for the 8 x Black and using the now free 4 tables they play down to 4. Then we bring both Black and Red together so every Red player has had 2 matches and Black have had 1 match at least. This GUARANTEES at least 4 x Red players will be in the prize money and as it will be the best of the Red players they might make the semis or better on their day.
We will see how the players accept this format as Les has been attempting to get the OSA to do something for their 'A' players for 2 years now and they've have basically told him to 'go away, we don't need your help'.
At the meeting the OSA was bragging they would have around $12,000 in the bank at the end of the season but didn't say how it was going to be used outside of buying 8 sets of 1G balls from Odie for $350 when they will cost him under $210 a set, so Odie puts over $1,100 of OSA membership money straight into his pocket. The sale of 6 sets of the old balls to Rhonda for $750 wasn't even mentioned so no idea where that money was going. Nice business for Odie, not so good for the membership though.
They also said they are no longer a non-profit association so there was no need to hold an AGM and besides 'it's just too much bother to get the players together' so the membership has no say in how the OSA is being run. We intend to register OSC as a non-profit and actively seek out the player's ideas but right now no membership fees until we do that and then it will be a minimum, like $10 a season or something. This will be to pay for website maintenance as Les has already paid for a hosted website out of his own pocket and I'll be paying the non-profit registration fee.
Enough for now. See you on Jan 31st and if you want to play in the Corner Bank direct entry I'll see you then.Last edited by Terry Davidson; 15 January 2015, 04:21 PM.Terry Davidson
