  • Stephen James rolls back the years

FORMER professional Stephen James rolled back the years but fell at the final hurdle in his bid to make the next stage of the English Amateur Championship.

James knocked in an 87 break in a 4-2 victory over Gary Miller and added an 81 in a 4-0 whitewash of David Brown in the West Midlands qualifier at Golden Cue Snooker Club, Bilston.

But he went out 4-2 in the next round to Daniel Ward (Darlaston), the 2006 IBSF World Championship runner-up.

Joining Ward for the last-16 south at The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Newbury, on the weekend of April 11-12 are Luke Garland (Dudley), Saqib Nasir (Birmingham), Adam King (Coventry) and Matt Emms (Kidderminster).

EASB Premier Junior Tour high-flier Garland recorded the highest break of the day, a 99 against Richard Haney, which ended with an ‘in-off’ on the green.

Is this the Steve James from Cannock in West Midlands, the ex professional that was playing when Martin Clark was? I saw on here he had been having problems with his health and sold his cue on eBay.

This was Steve Jame's cue...Ebay item number 201261477043. The lad who was selling it bought it after he met him in a hotel.. Apparently the cue had been altered quite a few times by different cue makers.
