  • Brown made to work for first tournament win

A NORTH Hants cueman has recorded his first tournament win on the English Masters Snooker Tour.

And he beat the rankings champion en route to the final.

David Brown (Moulton) defeated Simon Dent (Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex) 3-0 in the final of the third and last leg of the national circuit at Hot Shots Snooker Club, Oldbury, West Midlands.

But he was forced to work his socks off to get there.

Champion Jamie Bodle chalked up a 101, the highest break of the day, in the second frame of his 2-1 group-stage victory over Brown.

Brown took the third qualifying spot and then beat Bodle (Derby) 3-2 in the last-eight and Hassan Vaizie (Gloucester) by the same scoreline in the semi-finals.
