  • Egypt-bound Dent takes three big scalps

WEST Sussex cueman Simon Dent warmed up for next week’s IBSF World Masters Championship in Egypt with a hard-fought tournament win on the English circuit.

Dent, from Shoreham-by-Sea, accounted for the top-three ranked players on the English Masters Tour South in the knockout stage of the third leg at Woking Snooker Centre.

“It was good to get a tournament win in the Masters so close to the IBSF World Masters next Monday where I would love to play well,” he said.

“I’ve been playing lots of tournaments over the last couple of years and I feel as if I’m slowly finding my feet.”

Dent, who had lost in the quarter-finals in the first two events, qualified as runner-up from his round-robin group before beating second-placed Aidan Owens (Lowestoft) 3-1, leg-two winner Nigel Howe (Basildon) 3-2 and leg-one winner Matt Ford (Bracknell) 3-2 in the final.

“My goal is to keep my rankings high enough for next year’s England selection,” he added.

“But I do think there are many over 40s out there who could help make the Masters Tour even better than it already is. We’d love to see them.”

The fourth leg of six is at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, on Sunday, November 29.
