  • Past and present U14 champions lead RJT Midlands

ENGLISH under-14 champion Hamim Hussain has laid down a marker for the rest of what promises to be an intriguing season on the EASB Regional Junior Tour Midlands.

The 14-year-old from Small Heath, Birmingham, who also won the national title last year, reversed the first-leg result in the second event at Golden Cue Snooker Club, Bilston.

He defeated Nottingham’s Joe Reynolds, the 2013 under-14 champion, 2-0 in the final, which means there is now nothing between the pair at the top of the rankings.

Determined to avenge the previous result in Clay Cross, Hussain’s safety play and clearances were key to his success.

Both budding stars displayed good safety skills in the first frame of the final. Hussain appeared more focused than he had been for some time and edged it 84-71. A 38 break in the next sealed victory.

Hussain finished third last season, one place away from automatic promotion to the Premier Junior Tour.

The third leg of six is at Cueball Derby on Sunday, December 6.
