FORMER professional Hammad Miah has booked a place in the next stage of the prestigious 100-year-old English Amateur Championship.
Miah beat the host club’s co-owner Aidan Owens 4-3 in the final of the East Anglia qualifying tournament at Pot Black Club, Lowestoft.
The 22-year-old from Hertford accounted for Brian Sharpe and Nigel Howe without dropping a frame in the best-of-seven matches to set up the clash with Owens.
Miah fought back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to force a decider with an 84 break, the highest of the day.
And he clinched a very competitive seventh frame and a thoroughly entertaining final on the black.
The last-16 south of the competition that was launched in 1916 is at Dunstable Snooker Club on Saturday, January 23, 2016.
