  • WPBSA and IBSF

I see no mention of The WPBSA statement the other day!!

Following an inappropriate and unconstitutional attempt by some members of the International Billiards and Snooker Association (IBSF) to control seats within the World Confederation of Billiards Sports, the WPBSA will be distancing itself completely from the IBSF.All World Snooker Tour places allocated to the IBSF at future events will be removed with immediate effect. Any organisation staging events which hold two-year WSL tour cards for the winners should check with the WPBSA before taking any entries.
The WPBSA has had serious concerns for some time about governance standards within some Cue Sport organisations. The WPBSA is committed promoting the principles of good governance in sport and will continue to work with National Federations who share the same vision for the future.
No statement from The IBSF yet but what I find interesting is the first part of the statement "inappropriate and unconstitutional attempt by some members of the International Billiards and Snooker Association (IBSF) to control seats within the World Confederation of Billiards Sports" Bit like the kettle calling the pot black if you ask me considering his behaviour a few years back at a IBSF AMG where Jim Lacey was appointed Charman and Jason was going around rallying up votes from China and other countries to get Jim elected, I will also add that he did not even inform the then current chairman that he was making an appearance at the event.

Not surprised, this tit-for-tat has been going on for years and I doubt will cease for years to come.
Will only keep cue sports in the shadows off the main sports stage.
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

Both organizations have forgotten who their primary customers are...the players, both pros and amateurs. Of course the IBSF membership is made up of national associations but the players make up those associations. I am sadly disappointed by this and I think Dean is correct, this will set us all back.

The only way I see any progress is if the WPBSA starts supporting national associations directly and helps to sponsor players who have won qualifiers and have pro ambitions where they will need to travel to Britain. However, if they do this I suspect the IBSF will tell those countries they will be kicked out of the IBSF which now appears to be an empty threat if it happens.

Ferret (or anyone else)...has anyone heard any more infor regarding this. What did the IBSF try and do and what did the WPBSA try to do themselves as I know neither organization is perfect and fair.

They say "inappropriate and unconstitutional attempt by some members of the International Billiards and Snooker Association (IBSF) to control seats within the World Confederation of Billiards Sports"

And they themselves tried and succeeded in doing this at the AGM where Jim Lacey was elected as chairman (Poland I think it was) Jason was there rallying the voting members to vote for Jim, he did not inform the outgoing chairman that he was even attending the event.

No new news as of yet.

There's sure to be more to come on this. But yes, looks like it's a step in the right direction.
This is how I see it at the moment
