WOMEN’S snooker star Katie Henrick was “over the moon” after clinching a first ranking event at Cambridge SC on Saturday (October 6).
Runner-up in Derbyshire last month, Henrick went one better to beat June Banks 3-1 in the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association East Anglian Championship final.
The 27-year-old from Bickley, Kent, pocketed £180 and is now provisionally ranked world number two.
“I’m really, really pleased,” said Henrick. “It was something I wanted to do this season and it took me up to number two as well, so that’s even more of a bonus.”
The former England international is a snooker professional at the RAC in Pall Mall and has played on the circuit for ten years. She lost to world number one Reanne Evans in the UK Championship final, the first event of the season.
Henrick added: “I’m really pleased to finally win one because I’ve had a couple of finals and not quite managed it, so to actually win today is such a boost.”
Banks was on course for a first tournament win since this event in 2005 after compiling breaks of 56, 41, 42 and 49 in the early rounds and taking a 1-0 lead in the final.
But the 38-year-old from Orpington, Kent, who picked up £80, said: “I ran out of steam in the end.”
World number one Evans, 21, was in action on the English Association of Snooker and Billiards Pro-Ticket Tour in Leeds.
Vicky Ashby, 24, from Hemel Hempstead, beat Hannah Jones from Derby, 2-0 in the Plate final.
England international Jones, 11, who is due to fly out to Thailand next month for the IBSF World Amateur Championships, reached a first final despite having had only four hours’ sleep the previous night.

I read that interview earlier, very interesting. Sad to see that she "hates pool", yet contemplates possibly as a last resort taking it up to "pay for" her snooker.
Reanne Evans is only 21 but she has already managed a feat that not even Ronnie O'Sullivan will match.
I find that a tad patronising, considering she is already one world title up on Ronnie

I think it is more tongue in cheek about Ronnie not winning a World title while pregnant...
You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't
not sure my first season but mark allen has played a few and her 2 brothers play so i expect she gets treated with respect. i would treat her with respect if i played her anyways. shes made a 71 in first 3 games so cant be too bad lol
THE women’s snooker circuit descends on Rushden this Saturday for the British Open, the third ranking event of the season.
World number two Katie Henrick (Bickley, Kent) is aiming for a second tournament win in a row after her triumph at the East Anglian Championship in Cambridge last month.
Maria Catalano (Dudley, West Midlands), who has just returned from playing on the US pool circuit, fancies her chances of a first title this season.
Beaten finalist in Cambridge June Banks (Orpington, Kent) will be keen to regain her number two spot
Two veterans of the World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association (WLBSA) circuit, 47-year-old snooker club-boss Jenny Poulter (Maidstone) and 45-year-old Chris Sharpe (Chelmsford) are also in action.
Reigning champion, and world number one, Reanne Evans and 11-year-old Derby schoolgirl Hannah Jones are in Korat, Thailand, for the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Ladies Championship and miss the trip to Northamptonshire.
Tina Owen-Sevilton (Somerset), Maureen Logan (Tyne & Wear) and Derby duo Julie Kightley and Julia Betteridge make their first starts of the season.

There was a girl called Jaique Ip-Wan In (I think that is right!) who flew over from Hong Kong for the first ranking event of the season, the UK Championship and the Wytech Masters. Apparently, she was 2006 Ladies IBSF World Runner Up. She was beaten in SF of Masters by Emma Bonney 4-3 but won the UK Champ Plate.
I was watching her play some of her matches and I reckon she has a lot of potential. Nice solid cue action and great potter. I think we might be seeing a lot more of her in future. She said she enjoyed event and seemed keen to return.
Yes...well...There is more to playing snooker than winning money.
Tim Dunkley
Well yes ... but when you see players like Wendy Jans focusing on pool because they can't make a living in snooker ... maybe this futile detail requires some attention after all...
