Can I just correct a minor point there about the PIOS

you do NOt need to qualify to go ont he PIOS it is an OPEN tour

anyone aged 15 years and over, of either sex and any nationality can play the PIOS.

it is the best apprenticeship there is for players with ambitions of ultimately reching the main tour, and it's part of the structure to reach the Main tour, with 8 players eligible for promotion each season from the PIOS to the next season's main professionl tour.

on the subject of the ladies. when i was playing on the circuit, Allison was number one, but there were other top class lady players around at that time too. Stacey Hillyard, Ann Marie Farren, Tessa Davidson, Kim Shaw, Georgina Aplin, and many very good Asusies and Canadians.

the ladies tour has been decimated by the girls going over to USA to dominate the pool scene. but there's very little prize money in the ladies snooker events and it's ane expensive hobby so it's good to see the girls can get some rewards from pool. We were getting higher prize money in late 1980s in ladies events than they're getting now, 20 years later.

there are a few good lady snooker players around now though, led by Reanne Evans, also Wendy Jans, when she's not playing pool, Maria Catalano, Katie Henrick, and some up and coming youngsters like Suzie Opacic, etc

and watch out for the Chinese. I've seen a few rather useful Chinese and HK and Thai players in recent ladies international events.

Horsburgh who stands just over 5ft tall won a hard-fought final against Barbara Taylor in her home town of Blackpool, England.

The world championship attracts players from throughout Europe and from as far away as South Africa and Australia. Horsburgh had some tough matches, especially her semi-final against reigning champion and eight-time winner Sue Thompson.

She came from 2-1 behind and rattled off six dishes in succession to win 7-2. “She was awesome," said Thompson who cheered her on in the final. "If I had to lose my title to anyone it would be to Lynette," she said.

Scottish international Horsburgh, who is based at Blackburn with BBC Lancashire, beat current World Cup Champion Taylor 8-6 in the final after trailing 2-0. Fans call her “Wee One” and “Spinny” and “The Ice Maiden” as she is so super cool, but she admitted to a few early nerves in the final at the Imperial Hotel.

“I’m really thrilled,” said Horsburgh, 34, whose partner Karl Boyes is a former 8 Ball World Cup Champion and now a leading American Pool player. Boyes, who reached the semi-finals of this year’s World 9-ball Pool Championship in the Philippines, arrived home from playing in Spain just in time to watch her win.

She started playing snooker as an 11-year-old and has appeared in two world finals. She has a highest break of 135 and was ranked world number 1 in Ladies Snooker when she took up 8-ball pool in earnest only five years ago.
Another one who's gone away from snooker :snooker:
        Anyway, congrats to Lynette

Sadly not, but CueSport TV filmed the World Championship final at Cambridge between Reanne Evans and June Banks.
