Can I just correct a minor point there about the PIOS
you do NOt need to qualify to go ont he PIOS it is an OPEN tour
anyone aged 15 years and over, of either sex and any nationality can play the PIOS.
it is the best apprenticeship there is for players with ambitions of ultimately reching the main tour, and it's part of the structure to reach the Main tour, with 8 players eligible for promotion each season from the PIOS to the next season's main professionl tour.
on the subject of the ladies. when i was playing on the circuit, Allison was number one, but there were other top class lady players around at that time too. Stacey Hillyard, Ann Marie Farren, Tessa Davidson, Kim Shaw, Georgina Aplin, and many very good Asusies and Canadians.
the ladies tour has been decimated by the girls going over to USA to dominate the pool scene. but there's very little prize money in the ladies snooker events and it's ane expensive hobby so it's good to see the girls can get some rewards from pool. We were getting higher prize money in late 1980s in ladies events than they're getting now, 20 years later.
there are a few good lady snooker players around now though, led by Reanne Evans, also Wendy Jans, when she's not playing pool, Maria Catalano, Katie Henrick, and some up and coming youngsters like Suzie Opacic, etc
and watch out for the Chinese. I've seen a few rather useful Chinese and HK and Thai players in recent ladies international events.
