MattWilson, forum member, today lost in the semi finals of the Pro Ticket Playoffs which gives the winner entry onto the Main Tour. He lost 5-1 to Paul Hunter Scholarship winner Adam Duffy 5-1.

Unlucky and all the best next season as it would be great to have a regular poster here on the actual main tour.

Thanks for all your kind words. I must admit, it's nice to know I can still compete with the best amateurs in this country, even though I have a full-time job and don't take snooker as seriously as some.

I played well to beat Craig Steadman 5-1 on Saturday, but I couldn't get going against Adam when we came back Sunday morning. He played well, and I'm surprised (and a little disappointed) he didn't win the final in the end. But the scholarship will do him the world of good in terms of preparation for life as a pro, and I'm certain it is only a matter of time before he makes it into the pro ranks.

                Here's to next year!

Andy Lee (Leicester) won the final, beating Adam Duffy (Sheffield) 6-3 from 3-1 down at the interval and will take his place on the Tour next year.

David Grace, who Andy beat in the semi final, quite rightly said elsewhere that Andy played the best match snooker over the weekend, and deserved to win.

Of course, Lee has some work to do if he is to match the achievements of last year's play-off winner, Martin Gould who reached the final stages of the Northern Ireland Trophy, beating Matthew Stevens before going down 5-3 to Stephen Hendry.

Personally, I play snooker just for the love of the game and of competing. Turning pro has to be an aim for me, although I must admit it is not a priority. My aims when I started playing seriously were to make a 147 (which I've done twice now) and to become English Amateur Champion. I guess only time will tell if I can achieve both!

                              Matt,
I'm sure you won't remember but I played you at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds in a Pro-Am about 12 years ago, I remember it well as it was one of the first I entered and what an intro to 'real' snooker it was for me. You destroyed me 3-0 in about half an hour (I was VERY nervous!!)!!!!

Great to see a name I remember from back then still playing at such a high level and working full time - it's hard to do that so hat's off to you mate. Many of the guys you compete against are playing 6hrs a day, be proud of your achievment and good luck next year!
