Under 16's Snooker League - Birmingham

Hi, myself and a couple of my freinds have realised that Birmingham must be the worst place in the world for snooker tournaments. To Date, there is not one tournament for under-16's players. As i am 15 myself, i, along with a few other people would like to start up an Under 16's Birmingham Championship. There will be trophies for the highest break, overall winner, and other things like that etc. i was wondering A) Is there any under 16's out there interested in maybe having a go, and B) Does anybody no how to correctly set up a league i.e any ideas

Birmingham is not good for tournaments full stop, regardless of age! Leicester is probably the nearest that you will find tournaments for your age, I think Malcolm Thorne still runs junior events, get in touch with Janie at Globalsnooker, she will be able to put you in touch with people who know about tournaments for juniors.

As for running your own league this takes a lot of work and is probably not worth the trouble. A tournament or series of events is probably your best bet. Where do you play, which club, and how many people do you know would be interested? Obviously the Internet is a good place to gather some interest but as its for under 16's you might struggle to get enough people interested.

I think you have a good idea. Keep it simple and perhaps play a game a week or something, best of 3 or 5 or something and then decide the winner on frames won or something. I agree that it might be easier to do a series of tournaments - malcolm at leicester does this and so does rushden snooker centre. Then you just play a tournament a month and can have individual winners and then an overall series champion etc. I rate your idea and i am setting up a website for coaching and junior results so if you do go ahead you can e-mail me the results and i will put them on my site for you.
