Table was also a bit slow, the cloth didn't respond like we see over here.
I think the highest break made was around 30 in the 7 frames they played.

Most of the time a player got in they would pot a couple of balls and then miss something very simple, and by the end of the frames that I saw the table was very messy - colours all off their spots - and the frame scores were very low.

The people in the chat didn't have a great understanding of the game, and didn't respond well to any corrections about the shot selection favoured by good players, or the standard of play that they were witnessing.

To promote the game in America, as is the aim of this venture, they'll have to find better players to participate. If I had never seen snooker before and had only that match to go on, I would not have been impressed.

First of all, I think it is very understandable that since either of the two players are pros or ex-pros that we all know we should nto be expecting very high standard. Snooker is a new game in the US, and it is wonderful that someone is trying to promote it.

I for one am really excited that someone is willing to go through the trouble of making this happen. Thank you.

I missed the live, and last night went to watch some of the recording in justin tv.

Please understand I am not trying to knock anyone, but I am afraid my opinion may come across as being a bit on the rough side.

The cushions do seem very slow. I could not really hear the commentation at all except a few coughes here and there, not sure if my sound is not turned up loud enough or not. I did not watch the whole match, just a few of them.

From what I have watched, the player Jones was playing with really did not seem to have good cue ball control, and he made quite a few poor shot selections.

He made some good pots every now and then but he was unable to see the patterns to make some decent break in my humble opinion. He seems pretty smooth through the balls, and I think he could be a much better player if he could see the pattern better and play with better cue ball control and shot selections. When the black is not on the spot, it takes more skill to build a nice break--cue ball control and pattern recognition becomes even more important.

I am very disappointed to see how poor Jones potting was. His safties and positioning play is obviously not one of a snooker player. He probably has very little understanding of the game.

There were quite a few shots both players played that really puzzled me. In my opinion, I think both of them do not have much understanding of the game, although the fellow in the vest seem to pot a bit better.

But good effort of trying to promote the game in the US. A lot of work must have been put in to get this going, and I hope perhaps better players could be have for next time to make it more interesting.

How about the national champion in the US, or even some of the WPBA ex-snooker players such as Karen Corr, Julie Kelly, Kelly Fisher, Allison Fisher, or even Kim Shaw? I think they would offer better performance than the two players in this showings for the viewers.

Thanks for the comments all. (This is the guy in the vest from Saturdays game)
Yep, I'm not a pro player, not even close, just an amateur who enjoys the game. Can't find any competition in the area though. I played a guy (who played in the US championship last year), on boxing day live via the internet too and demolished him. Most of the comments in the chat were about wishing for a closer match etc. So we roped Jeremy. He lives in the area. I was definitely not on my best game, 'cos playing somebody of Jeremy Jones stature was quite imposing so I was a bit tense. My stroke wasn't there, couldn't make a long shot, and not making excuses, but I was playing with a broken wrist. I took the brace of for the game, but certain shots made me cringe. I'm glad I ended up coming out the victor over a pro-pool player though. Score 1 for snooker players!!!!!

For some reason, the baize did play slow. My guess is that it was the added humidity of having that many people in the room watching, my a/c wasn't able to cope. The felt normally plays pretty fast, sure it's not the double shaved stuff, but it is still strachan 6811 gold.

We're gonna try for more live games, but first I need my wrist to heal. Hopefully the MRI tomorrow will show some progress.

Strachan 6811 is a good cloth, you must have spent tones of money to get the set up you have. I am assuming that is your home table?
I thought the cushion looked a bit slow judging from how hard the players were hitting the balls and they did not seem to bounce too much. But that is just my opinion without actually being there.
Would you be willing to set up a match with some of the WPBA ladies on the WPBA such as Kelly Fisher. She is now no.1 on the WPBA ranking and was many times snooker champion in the UK. She has made 147 and many tons.
I think it would be a great match to watch and should be good practice for you as well.
With all due respect, I seriously doubt if the US national snooker champions can beat Kelly Fisher in snooker.
If you decide to do it, I am very certain many viewers will log in to watch it live.
Like I said before, I really appreciate what you have tried to do. It is wonderful to see such interest and passion in the US for a game that not many players play.
By the way, I do think you are a better snooker player than Jeremy and I dont think you need to feel intimidated by him.

Yep it's my home table and yes it cost me pretty penny. But less than the money I would have spend paying at a club plus the gas to drive an hour and back..... Snooker tables are few and far between in the USA and carry a premium. If you want to play, $20 an hour is typical.
The cushions are steel block and really pretty bouncy! I have to video downloaded on my computer and considering dubbing with my own commentary. (A what-where-you-thinking track) I'd like to pretend that I know the right shot, just that the execution is off*grins* I hit a few shots really hard, 'cos I'm just off straight and have to get that cue ball moving.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments, I'd absolutely love get my @ss handed to me by one of the ladies. Besides, I would learn so much more than playing against converted pool players! So if you know any of them personally: hook a brother up!

I dont know them. But if you can ask Jeremy Jones, may be he can contact them for you. Please dont get me wrong, being lady has nothing to do with it. I mentioned Kelly Fisher because in my mind she is a solid snooker player and she is living int he US, so is Karen Corr, Julie Kelly, and Allison Fisher. They might be interested in practicing on a nice snooker table in the US as well, since a good condition snooker table is so hard to come by.

Anyway, you have done a wonderful job preparing for this, I hope you will keep it up, and please keep us informed.

I would definitely watch a match with one of the ex snooker ladies on the pro pool tour like alison or kelly fisher, would be a great way to promote snooker in the USA, would give pool fans a chance to see why the ladies who learned to play snooker first are so good at pool.

found this on youtube, pretty impressive.

I would pay to watch that if you can get Allison Fisher or Karen Corr to play Kelly Fisher live. I dont even care about whether you have commentation or not.

I would love to see Karen Corr vs Kelly Fisher. Allison Fisher vs Kelly Fisher would be my second choice. Julie Kelly vs Kelly Fisher would be my third.

                  Or

Some top man 9 ball pro against Kelly Fisher, such as John Schimdt vs Kelly Fisher would be quite interesting, may draw you lots of interest in the US as well as the UK.

Then, Drsnooker, you will take on the winner. :-)
