John Higgins only requires four more frames to book his place in the final of the 2009 World Championships.
The Scot leads Mark Allen 13-3 going into the evening session after a flawless display in the second session, with the Northern Irishman winning only one frame.
It looked ominous for Allen when Higgins produced a brilliant 129 clearance to take the first frame. Another century in frame 12 ensured Higgins went into the mid-session interval leading 10-2.
It looked like a fight-back could be on when Allen made a century in frame 14 to trail 11-3, but Higgins won the next two and leads 13-3.
Allen has looked uncomfortable with the one table situation missing many easy balls and failing to capitalize on the chances presented to him.
It now looks like tomorrow's final afternoon session will not be needed with Higgins only needing four more frames tonight.
The Wizard of Wishaw was at his brilliant best throughout and is the bookmaker's favorite to win his third world crown.
Play resumes at 7pm tonight.
