So my conclusion for the format is that it is a good one and will bring more people into watch, will be interesting to see what the TV ratings are like after the event finishes.
It's always a great pleasure to be able to discuss about snooker with people who aren't addicted (as we are).
Therefore, World Open, is a great event for snooker on TV.

As a snooker addict, i'm happy to be able to watch quite all the event on that single table.
As a big fan of Martin Gould, you have to choose between :
    Maguire-Trump & Gould-Couch :Bo5 and both on TV
Maguire-Trump & Gould-Couch :Bo9 and guess who will be on TV.
You also know it may be the last time you've seen him on Tv this season since
he was #43 (#26 by now) and PTC & Qualifiers aren't on TV...

Do you also enjoy "reading" all PTC & Prestatyn matchs ?

Far and away the best tournament for a long, long time. Not one game is dead. Even if a player only needs 1 frame to win, the opponent only needs a maximum of 3 to win. This is much more interesting than seeing someone 8-1 up in the UK, or 11 - 2 in front in the WC. Also, how can the WC final be enjoyable when lately, the two finalists have been too shattered to compete properly?

It's no coincidence that the Premier League with it's shot clock and the best of 5, are the most popular formats. The crowd tells you that.

What i'd like to see, is maybe more leagues, just like football, with promotion, relegation and ranking points.

        new format questionable

the thing i find about the new best of 5 format is that the top players will lose more and with the new ranking system they could easily fall out the top 16 and we would have some boring not so good players in the top 16 going to the crucible and we would be watching players score 50 60 breaks all day long best of 7 would be ideal in my opinion

It's 1 tournament out of several ranking tournaments so I don't think it's an issue really.

I am another who has enjoyed the five frame format. Have also been a snooker fan for longer than most of you. You get to see different players in the same day and see the end of matches and most games have been very watchable.

As beechy has said, some of the long games like the World Championships are often played by two players, towards the end, who are complelely kn......d!

I do not go to see matches live these days as they are usually such a long way off, but we did used to go down to Soho to see the games way back when they were all played there, when the A1 was just an ordinary two lane road and went through all the towns and villages on its way.

imo this format works well because Joe Public gets to know a few of the newer players out there. Maybe it's just my age group but most people talk about ray reardon, alex higgins, tony meo, bill werbenuik, kirk stevens, steve etc because they were the characters when pot black was going. Even the great players of today are not household names, because the short format suits t.v. for the majority of non players. As we are all here because we love the sport, it may not affect us the same way, but the sponsors that keep these guys earning a living need the players to be instantly recognisable, and this is the way to do it. I thought the idea was maddness when first mentioned but now I am a fan.
