A couple of thoughts on positive or negative play: to play positively is to have clear objectives of what you need to do to WIN a match. Playing negatively is about having no particular aim other than trying to avoid losing.
Quick players are quick when they're in the balls and they can take games away from you before you have time to settle. A positive strategy is to limit the chances this guy has to get in the balls. Then when you have openings, take care to score steadily. This will test his patience and put him under pressure. Focus on scoring well and not giving him any easy openings.Comment

I, as well, think you should pay particular attention to your safety. Try to keep the guy out of the table as much as possible and put him really under pressure (easier said than done). Don't try to slow your own game deliberately, just keep positive and give the guy a real headache with your safety and, hopefully, scoring.
As Ronnie once put it "there are no boundaries", and he's right. The only boundaries are those that your mind creates. Be creative, play positive.Comment

This also very sound advice. You can only control what you do, or want to do, and having clear objectives is a very good way to enter the match with a very positive attitude. Try and put all the advantages you can on your side by deciding on what you want to do; have a plan and execute it. Concentrate on your game and let your opponent worry about his game. Play every shot with 100% focus and don't let yourself be distracted by anything. I can admire the skill of both my opponents. I'm a slow player myself, even slower now my knee's buggered up, and so I prefer playing a slower player as I've got time to hurple back to my chair and actually sit down before I have to play again! Nobody will have a problem with slow players if that's their natural game. Players who deliberately slow down on simplest of shots to make their opponents suffer are the one's to watch.Originally Posted by KeithinFrance View Post
Speaking of fast players, some of my very good pool playing colleagues had the priviledge to play against Tony Drago at one of the European pool events. They told me that it was very humbling and intimidating at the same time, but great to watch. It is one thing to watch that guy on tv, but when you confront him it's a different matter. High quality fast players make everyone look incompetent if they're winning. They are very rare though.Comment

Ahh too bad, ye I know there are some clubs with snooker tables in Zagreb, though I've never been to those.
Fortunately there's a big (for our standard) billiards club newly opened in Varazdin, and they have a full size snooker table, it's the Leonhart brand and it's a real pleasure to play there
