  • flaw in sighting the balls while standing up

just noticed an issue when I'm picking the angle while standing up. it feels like when I'm trying to line my shot up, the white ball is to the right of the center of my vision which causes inconsistency in my game, not sure if anyone else has that problem or just me

Try moving your head from one side to the other until you find a position that looks right. In fact, you can do this even when down on the shot (Mark Selby does sometimes)

If you're right handed you may have a left eye dominance thing going on (or vice versa).

What you are describing, contralateral dominance, is actually very common in expert players. However the opposite, right handed & right eye dominant or left handed and left eye dominant (ipsilateral eye dominance) predominates in the population at large. This suggests that contralateral dominance is in fact an advantage in cue sports.

But I wouldn't worry about it. It is a complex subject - most of what I have read about it in snooker / pool forums is overly simplistic and of no practical help to anyone. Keep your attention focused on what it should be focused on, and your eye position will look after itself (as will the rest of your body).

The only 3 things relating to eye dominance that I would say are (in decreasing order of importance):
        1. Always walk straight into the shot and get straight down; do not come in at an angle
        2. If you have ipsilateral eye dominance, you might find it helpful to bring the cue onto the line of the shot early, and then bring it straight down (rather than let it come in from the side).
        3. If you chalk your cue while you are finding the shot line / contact point and then immediately getting down to the shot, this might cause problems sighting problems. Might be ok, but something to be aware of.
