  • The boring aiming topic

    Hi all,

I have watched many of YouTube videos and read many of articles on the different aiming and alignment methods.

However, one thing I am struggling to find any info on is when down on the shot and checking alignment, do you check the cueball against the object ball or whether the cue is aligned to the object ball?

Ive always tried to align the cue to the object ball and strike through the cue ball as if it isn't there. The problem I have with this method is when I look down the cue at the object ball, you see 2 cues as you would expect as you have 2 eyes. If this is the correct method, which cue do you align with the object ball? I have tried the centre alignment drills to see what looks straight while down on the shot and it is neither cue in my vision. So I am now questioning this method altogether.

Any help or advice on my alignment issue would be greatfully appreciated.

    Thanks
    Ben

Set up something like a half-ball cut and then move the cue ball close to the object ball. The answer to your question should become clear. You are aiming the cb onto the ob. You cannot just imagine the cb is not there. It is, it is solid and has dimensions.

Before you can get to a table, how about this for a bit of cognitive reorientation: Willie Mosconi, perhaps the greatest pool player of all time, used to say that the only difference between aiming a straight in shot and a cut shot was in deciding what part of the cue ball you are going to hit the object ball with ...
