What are players looking at when you are walking into the shot and on your way down into the shot, is it the cue ball, object ball or somewhere in between?

Potting angle on the object ball for me. Then my eye pattern goes to cue ball to confirm where I want to strike the white then back to the object ball and specifically the point on the object I want to hit. This I personally do in 3-4 feathers.Last edited by Cue crafty; 10 March 2023, 10:04 PM.⚪ 🔴🟡🟢🟤🔵💗⚫🕳️😎

I’ve always looked 95% at the object ball with maybe a quick check of the cue ball at the beginning and then after I am set. But TSFs very own BartonSnooker has me questioning everything right now. I first tried looking only at cue ball until I was nearly set and I very nearly missed the table. The I tried more of a mixture and had decent results.

After playing my whole life looking at the OB on the way in, I changed my approach recently and I now look at the cue ball almost as soon as my feet have been planted. It took a while to get used to because it doesn't feel natural to take your eyes off the thing you're trying to hit, but it's definitely improved my game.

I do same as CC, my first check on the cue ball is to make sure I'm in the middle of it and it's still on line, if not I stand back up, well that's what I should do, in reality I can't be arsed and try and make do.This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

When playing without overthinking it I haven’t a clue what I look at and in what order . I just get down and play the shot .
When i’m overthinking everything it then I start to think about what I'm looking at and when ….. bad things happen after that

Im wondering if the golf version is more suited to the snooker player what with both being ‘closed’ sports .

I stare intensely into my opponents eyes and nothing else...
wide potting angle/whole table, line myself - cue - object ball - pocket. Confirm tip placement with a white ball glance, feather back look up to object ball/potting point, deliver cue.
I focus on cue line/follow through in my peripheral

My objective is to be able to 'see' the shot as soon as I am down in the cuing position; I don't want to be searching for it and taking a lot of time with rehearsal strokes / feathers. I find that I can best achieve this by looking at the cb when I step into the shot and go down.

I’ve played this game for so many years now I don’t think of anything really ,all I know is that the last thing I see briefly is the object ball .very similar to golf ,if you start thinking about pushing cue through this that and the other ,stance and all that crap you just baffle yourself and fill yer head with rubbish .Getting good foundations is ok when your starting out ,after that you should just automatically drop into your own natural position ..Pros never think of missing and what happens if you do miss ,all that’s just negative .Golf is a great example of this , take an approach shot of say around 130 yards over water to the green and thinking I mustn’t go in the water is a negative thought ,you should be thinking ,I’ll stick this left side of the pin ,even thinking anything with water is negative and that’s where you will most likely end up .snooker and golf are static ball games ,it’s in your head
