  • what is the best aiming method?

    Hello

I started playing snooker 8 years ago,
Played 2 years without a coach then I decided to see a coach. the coach did teach me the basic techniques however I was also told to change my aiming technique.
etc: as i was about to hit the cue ball i used to watch the cue ball and then object ball
the coach said i have to lock my eye on object ball after or during the final backswing
    -----

since then i have changed my aiming and been looking at object ball just before delivery.
However there is a problem, I recently realized that I have a big problem with my aiming, and i think i am doing it wrong and that is why i miss alot.
    ----

basically when i start featuring i go like cueball, object ball, pocket , then a slow backswing and as i am about to pull the cue ball i switch my eyes to the object ball and my eyes stay on object ball during the delivery but as soon as the cue tip is about to hit the cue ball i look at the pocket.

what am i doing wrong here? should i even be looking at the pocket once i am down ? during features or on delivery
what should i do to fix this problem if this is the reason why i miss lots of pots

of should i go back to my natural aiming , look at the whilte as about to hit the cueball

i really appreciate any suggestion and fix this problem

thank you very much in advance

Don’t overthink it or you’ll end up a robot. There’s not a one size fits all solution. I’m an eyes on cue ball when feathering eyes on object when striking cue ball….. I think. Never videoed myself to prove it.

tnx for your reply, do you ever look at pocket directly while standing ? or while down featuring and on delivery ?

As I pull the cue back I look at the object ball , in the backpause my eyes are already on object ball, as I deliver the cue my eyes are still on object ball, but as the cue tip is about to hit the cueball my eyes flicks from object ball to the pocket.
I look at pocket while featuring, example during features: cueball+objectball+pocket
I know I said when I first started playing snooker I was looking at cue ball on impact. But my problem is that my eyes flicks from object ball to pocket as the cue tip is about to hit the cueball.

Not a good idea to look at the pocket after the strike as it can cause head movement which is disastrous usually. Only time you want to look at the pocket is when standing behind the shot to take aim before you walk into the shot and get down.

You can control that, concentrate on the object ball like your life depends on it, the results should make you find it easier and satisfying.

Pretty dead yes - it livens up from time time but inconsistently, have a look at this page which shows who's online, https://www.thesnookerforum.co.uk/board/online

Generally you'll see a lot of "guests" (silent content readers) and only about half a dozen members online..

Here's a reply for you, hire someone to punch you in the face everytime you look at the pocket until you stop doing it.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

Yes a bit dead. A lot of people only post when they want something and contribute zilch.

In theory the only time you look at the pocket is in the upright position when you figure out where to hit the object ball.

Once you're down, you actually only look at the white and the object ball. Firstly to check wether you're on the correct line of the shot, secondly to determine the spot to hit on the white while feathering and thirdly to focus on the point of contact at the object ball while delivering the cue.

When delivering the cue, it's like throwing a dart... you only look at the target, the whole motion through, until the dart hits the board or the white hits the object ball. The target in snooker is the object ball, not the pocket.
                        "That pocket moved!"

Agree with what everyone else seems to be saying, no need to look at the pocket once you're down as you should be on the line from your pre-shot routine. 99% of the time, when someone thinks they're missing because they're aiming wrong it's because they're not cueing straight.

tnx i tried your tip today, i think i look at object ball too quick
                            am i doing it right?

                            when featuring i go like
cueball, objectball, cueball objectball , a front pause and as i pull the cue back , at the very start i look at object ball and pull the cue back and have a slight back pause while still looking at object ball , then while looking at object ball i deliver the cue

when is the best time to look at object ball ?at front pause or as soon as you pull the cue back , or midway or in the backpause?
                            thank you very much

It's a personal thing, you have to find what works best for you.
For me what ever you do keep relaxed, you can over think things and get a bit stiff which isn't good for delivering the cue nicely.
