As you'll see from watching the game...many variations of head positions...the eyes dictate the head...not the other way round
Just noticed it's gone unanswered since last year...I may be a bit naive and didn;t notice the thread revival by some seemingly spanish stuff

Good job Gary for not allowing ronnie to totatly thrash you just now

Stand behind the shot and visualize it before getting down. Then keep the shot in mind as you get down. So you get down with the purpose of playing that shot. This should get your eyes in the right position.
Two things you need to avoid:
        1. Decide on what shot to play, then just get down and start aiming, rehearsing it. The aiming and rehearsing starts when you are standing, and continues on your way down.
        2. Think about where your head is / should be. You should be focusing on what is in front of you, what you want the balls to do. Do not focus on how you should do it, what your body is doing.

I've always aimed for my chin to be in line with the cue but it naturally ends up just to the left side ever so slightly. I've been following the snooker on TV and I can't help being annoyed by how some players have their heads in weird positions I try not to let it bother me but Mark Allen somehow manages to bends his face every time he's on the queue and I don't like to watch it :P

Mark Allen's head position looks a little unusual because his eye dominance is a little unusual.

Most snooker players have contra-lateral dominance, which is to say they are right handed, left-eye dominant or left handed, right-eye dominant. Mark Allen is unusual having ipsi-lateral dominance - he is left handed and his left eye is dominant. His vision centre is therefore more towards his cuing arm.

All good players subconsciously learn to get their vision centre over the shot line. This is done by some combination of cue placement in relation to the chin, head tilt and head turn. The methods that you are familiar with will look natural to you. Because Mark Allen's eye dominance is unusual* his head position is unusual and looks 'wrong' to you.

*Unusual in snooker players. But in fact having ipsi-lateral dominance is the more common state in the general population
