  • What Do You Focus On as You get Down

I lock my eyes on object ball as i am about to hit the object ball, however my question is ! what do you look at as you are about to get down ?

the way i do is : i line up my shot, to make sure that the cueball is lined up behind object ball and object ball is going to pocket. now as i am walk in i keep looking at the object ball, but as soon as my bridge hands touches the table, and i am about to bend down i switch my eyes on cueball and slide through my bridge hand behind cueball. and then ofcourse i switch my eyes in between cueball and object ball etc

" i have noticed that i am getting offline at this stage while bending down and sliding my bridge hand through " am i doing something wrong? do i have to lock my eyes on objectball until i am fully bent and fully in address position?

    thank you

As I get down I focus on the object ball. Before I get down I look at everything else.

        I am a lousy player.

may i know, until when do you keep looking at the object ball while getting down?

i also keep looking at the object ball while getting down, but as soon as my bridge arm touches the table clothe, i switch my eyes to cueball and then complete my bending down action.

and i think this is where i get offline all the time

i just want to know if we have to keep looking at the object ball all the way until we are totally settled. i am thinking i might be switching my eyes too early to cueball

It could be that you're turning on the ball of your leading foot (right foot if right handed) as you're getting down which is putting the body, cue arm and cue offline. If you must turn that foot for comfort then turn it on the heel of the foot once planted as this doesn't move your body only your foot.
You find the line of aim when stood behind the shot so it's important not to move your feet once they are planted and you're lowering yourself down into your stance.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

thank you for the reply, no i already thought of that, and nothing else moves, until i bend down. i can feel that my heaps goes too much too the left, and i lean to the right.
if i keep staring at the object ball all the way until the tip is behind the cueball, then it my cue is much straighter but not all the time, but it is much better than when i switch my eyes to cueball as soon as the bridge hand touches the table

may i ask you personally? do you lock your eyes on objectball while standing until your cue tip is right behind the cue ball and you are ready to start featuring?

i am not talking about when lining the shot while standing , in that state ofcourse you have to look at the cueball too etc. and ofcourse at the backswing as you are about to deliver you have to lock your eyes on object ball. i am just asking when you are about to get down after the walking in is completed, so you have to lock the objectball angle to the pocket. because as i am getting down i switch my eyes to the cueball and i lose the line of aim, and that is why my cue goes offline and then i have to fish to find the line of aim

              tnx alotttttt

want to share something else that might be the root cause of the cue going offline, please share your knowledge i would be happy if you do so. tnx in advance

somehow when i am down , my hip is too much too the left (like neil robertson) and i feel like i am leaning to the right. and i suspect 4 things causing this.

1: as soon as i walk in and just before i get down, i can see that my cue is about 2 inches beyond cueball and as i am sliding through my bridge hand i pull the cue ball to bring the cue tip behind the cueball.

2: and by doing this, i think i pull the cue butt towards my body

3: and at the same time, my bridge hand angle turns to the right

4: and at the same time i can see my bridge arm is too bent

5: and at the same time i can see that i turn my hip too much to the left

want to know what is causing this problem?
is this because i switch my eyes from object ball too quick to cueball as i am bending down?
or is it that my cue is beyong cueball as i am getting down and i have to pull the cue back and i am pulling it offline?

could it be the bridge hand angle? or my arm is too bent?

something is going on as i bend down, everything goes wrong there

please help me if you can, and point out if i am doing something wrong

(earlier max said i turn my right foot heal but no i do not do that) and tnx for mentioning it

                      thanks everyone in advance

I was looking to PM somebody but will do it like this instead.

I have tried to respond as well as I can. I have problems with memory and lots of other things these days. So don't expect anything too detailed from me.

                        Best wishes.

Record yourself playing if you can and you might be able to identify some of these issues yourself. You obviously know what you think the problems are..

Another guy asked for advice recently in this thread https://www.thesnookerforum.co.uk/bo...ing-consistent and I thought the fact that he posted a video of himself playing was so helpful. If you have the ability to record yourself getting down on a shot from a few different angles, even if you set it up purposefully in advance, do it, and then analyse it for the errors you think you're making.
