  • Practice or no practice??

One of my team mates - our best player this season - has just reached the final of our league singles.

He does not practice at all and I was told by another team mate that this chap is a better player when he does not practice.

If find this bizarre. My game has been below my best this season due to lack of practice therefore I find this theory to be totally naff. If I were to stop practice my game would detereriorate.

My game is all about practice. When I am practising I play better in matches

    your thoughts please

Horses for courses. It also depends on the technical level you've reached, I think. Two of the best 8 ball pool players I know never practice, but both were snooker players and very good, in point of fact. They both rely on their technical proficiency from snooker to get them through and it works. On the other hand, the best player I know, who is the best player in France, practices all the time and he wins everything there is to win! So, who is right?

I would seriously doubt that by not practicing his game would "improve" as such but:

      * He may have practiced heavily before matches in the past and found that by doing this he has put unnecessary pressure on himself by "over-practicing" *

Practice practice and practice--the only way to improve in my opinion.

But when you have reached a certain level, you can beat teh nager even when you are not practicing, may be that is what is happening here.

No matter what. How can you become better/improve, which by definition means knowing more shots, being able to perform the shots you know with more consistency, playing better position...etc, without putting in the time to practice these faucets of your games?

I dont think one single top 16 pros or any pro for that matter would tell you they do not practice because they play better that way. However, it is also possible, as others have pointed out, that over practicing before a match could do harm to one's game so there needs to be a balance, perhaps a good practice schedule to fit into the tournament schedule.

A few people say they dont practice or have not been playing much to give them an excuse if they lose. When the truth may be quite different.
