yep RR ... I'm only giving my thought and my thought was the cushions were playing fast ... but who am I to know? are they steel-blocked?

you may be pleased to know I did watch all four frames (plus the 6 ball at the end) and enjoyed them ... loved your break of 34 ...

oh, and interestingly, you seem more confident at pots into the centre pockets as I do too ...

Lol the 6 red at the end was intended as an exhibition frame but didnt really end up like that i just got bored halfway through although credit to nam he carried on lol.

Thanks for taking the time out to watch the videos matey. Ill be setting up the camera in practice to show off some routines and hopefully catch me on a better day. And yes pots into the middle bags are favourites of mine. Why are you not so confident with them?

RR - you misread me, I far prefer the middle bags both at snooker and at UK 8 ball - it doesn't half **** your opponent off at UK 8 ball (which I do play competively) if they think they've got the corners blocked but you hit the very difficult thin cut into centre

Oh I see yes ive re-read your previous post. The 2 middle holes are very important in break building.

as the bishop said to the actress

but more seriously, on a UK 8 ball table, I'm happy to have a go at any pocket but centre pockets are my favourite and your opponent can't really block a centre pocket ...

guess that follows through to my once a week outing to play full-size snooker which may also help to answer a previous discussion - about players playing low weight ... I certainly do because it is almost invariably beneficial in UK 8 ball and I can't get out of the habit ...

although, having said that, I never ever complain if the cue-ball or object-ball rolls off unless I am being tongue-in-cheek ...

back to your vids with Nam ... thank you both for showing them ... it's difficult to tell but you both seemed to be hitting the ball fairly hard which produced lots of spin (you screwed back maybe 10ft from a ball into the black corner (yellow side) pocket in frame 3 or 4) ...very impressive

but it seemd to me you both had to hit the ball fairly hard to generate any significant spin on the white ... I'd be interested in your comments ...

Hey Dandya, as RR can tell you i have very bad habbits in my match play. I get frustrated to easily and can't break the mauld,

                  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUqCoooRCig

This is what i'm striving to achieve in my match play which i no where near reaching, which frustrates me no ends.

And yeah i don't have to put so much power to generate screws, i can do it properly, just when frustration kicks in, you know

Oh and recently I've only really been playing with crappy club cues which don't help, waiting on my trevor white.

Well I cant speak for Nam but I practice full table screw-back often and it is all about pushing the cue through the white as we all know. The table is not true or reliable so sometimes I hit it harder than necessary to force the angle which isnt advisable.

ok thanks both Nam and RR for your replies ...

next question (or rather plea for help) ... on the rare occasion I play with weight, I tend to miss even the easiest of pots - it must be something going wrong with my cueing action ...

                      any advice?

You mean when you force the cueball? Striking harder than you should to gain position?

                          yep, exactly that ...

just to describe my experience, I used to always bridge and always bring the cue back the same distance and then vary the power of the shot during the delivery but having recently watched Terry Griffith's videos on YouTube, I now vary distance of bridge and backswing on each shot and it seems to be helping me ...

but I'm still hopeless at the power shots! much better at the non-power shots though

Distance of bridge on the majority of shots should not vary very much if none at all. Backswing again should not vary TOO much but obviously will on deep screw etc..

On the "power" shots as you describe try plain ball potting. If its in your mind already that your struggling with a particular shot attempt to simplify the shot as much as you can. Putting side on the cueball could minimise your chances of potting it further so by plain ball potting you are giving yourself, and the pocket, every opportunity of accepting the pot. Give it a go. Obviously I dont know your game but just trying this may help?

For me its to do with the follow through, you don't need alot of power to generate spin. You have to resist temptation to whack the ball, but rather pull back further, start the follow through slow then accelerate, but it is also to do with timing which is very important, back swing pause then time the follow through.
Hope this helps, RR will correct me if i'm wrong

Hey dandy make a recording of your self playing different variety of shots, this might make it easier for roy to help coach you. Believe me its very useful.
Just read the post properly again dandy, i do the same thing for power shots when i do it properly, just striking center ball. just don't whack it like i do in frustration.
